Support Prosfygika!

#Prosfygika, the largest squat in Greece with around 400 residents, is under attack. The squatted neighbourhood has been living a resistant, self-organized life in the center of Athens for 14 years and is creating solutions for a society beyond the state, power and violence. The residents organize and provide for themselves and are a fundamental part of the anarchist movement in Greece. Prosfygika is an example of lived internationalism, grassroots organization and practical solidarity with refugees.

Prosfygika is a thorn in the side of the conservative-authoritarian Nea Demokratia government. Repression and gentrification are putting anarchist structures and former free spaces such as the Exarchia district under increasing pressure. The aim is to gradually destroy any movement that opposes state and capital. Grassroots organization, autonomy and organizing in solidarity stand in the way of this project of Greece’s final neoliberalization. We are therefore certain that the repressive pressure on the neighborhood will not let up. But we are just as sure that Prosfygika can provide perspectives and answers to the questions of what it means to organize long-term and resistively and to stand up to the state and capital....
