“the Los Angeles central public library bustled with nearly 100 people making zines…People of all ages, from all regions, are making, printing and distributing zines on the streets, in libraries and at local gathering spots…
Zine-makers and enthusiasts say that people are likely embracing the pen-and-paper medium again due to social media censorship, surveillance, doxing and the alleged suppression of certain topics on algorithms…
‘I have to do something. I can’t just sit home, looking at my phone and reading all the bad news. I have to get out there, be with people, and do something tangible.’…
through zines, you learned how to self-manage your own abortion…Every generation has the information that is relevant to their cultural space that they’re in, and zines are always going to speak to that, because those folks who are on the margins are looking for ways to connect…

Just because the ruling class is "technically" a part of a marginalized community, it doesn't absolve them of their shitty behavior.

I've struggled with depression my whole life. As it does, it's changed as I age. It's certainly gotten a lot more intense in the past ten years, because of things that have nothing to do with me.
I was doing an intake questionnaire with a mental health care provider recently, and when she asked if I ever felt down, depressed, or hopeless, the word "hopeless" made me laugh. A big, pealing belly laugh.. and I can't remember the last one I had before that.
It struck me so funny because right now, it seems that feeling hopeless isn't a useful indicator of disordered thinking. It's a rational response to living through multiple simultaneous existential crises.
That doesn't mean I think there isn't hope. On a personal level, I'm handling my depression much, much more effectively than I ever have in my life. And I'm heartened by my connections with good, loving people here, and in meatspace. Learning about other folks' efforts, and wins, is an immense boon to me.
But I live in the Northern Hemisphere, and winter is coming on, and I find the holidays particularly rough. I know they are for other people, too. So I just want to say.. you're not the only one who feels the way you do. We're all in this together, and you don't have to carry your burden alone.

"In the time of the polycrisis the average human contribution to the world has to change from negative to positive. We need to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and restore biodiversity and depleted soil. It is clear that removing all the harm people are doing to nature is not enough. We need to actively fix things. The total contribution of the people to the world has to be positive."

One of our core organizers is in desperate need of some solidarity right now. They have had a few months of terrible financial luck, leading to them being short on their closing costs for buying their house. This house will prevent them from being without safe and stable housing. It will also serve as a community hub and mutual aid home base for organizing efforts here on the harbor.
Every dollar and every share helps out tremendously. Thanks Y’all!!

Alternativ wohnen
