#forkiverse Any you other forkers come across “all posts are automatically deleted after six months” in fedi profiles? There is certainly a very real and very thoughtful reason for this, yah?

but coming off other social media, it really felt like “my racist toots? From… *snickers* EIGHT months ago? Yeah, I don’t think I’m going to be *accountable* for that.”

@OKdad

The reason for this is to keep the load on individual servers low. The Fediverse is a network of various small servers, often run privately by individuals. It does not have the capacity of Google and other large companies.

For this reason, it may be decided to delete posts after a certain period of time or to keep only certain posts. You can find this option under “More“ or „Preferences“.

The deletion only applies to your own Fediverse instance. You may find that the deleted posts are still available on other instances, but that's not a problem, as this feature is about minimizing data on your instance.

I have attached a video for you. It is in German, but I think it will help you.
