The reason for this is to keep the load on individual servers low. The Fediverse is a network of various small servers, often run privately by individuals. It does not have the capacity of Google and other large companies.
For this reason, it may be decided to delete posts after a certain period of time or to keep only certain posts. You can find this option under “More“ or „Preferences“.
The deletion only applies to your own Fediverse instance. You may find that the deleted posts are still available on other instances, but that's not a problem, as this feature is about minimizing data on your instance.
