That was Rufus Wainwright at the end right? Was he singing the Rice-a-roni song?

Am I crazy? He has a song called San Francisco but those are not the lyrics? RIGHT?

Rufus' orchestration is meant for space. He is from the future.

@stefan That was indeed him, singing a new arrangement of the song. If you use any streaming music platforms, they've released a season one Academy soundtrack, and there's a couple version of that track therein.

Okay, another #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy gripe. There's antigrav stuff *everywhere* - in the halls, in the parks, all over the sky. Apparently the technology in the 32nd century is cheap and abundant.

First – Like the transporter, we now have another magical technology that we’ll have break to come up with an excuse as to why *it* can’t solve the problem of the week.

Second - Why are there still boats?

A scene from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, showing the eponymous academy on the shore of San Francisco Bay. The Golden Gate Bridge can be seen to the left, along with a large ship leaving a wake as it plows through water. Also depicted are a dozen or so building-sized things just floating around.

While I’m griping, what's with these “cranes” shown in the opening credits? The reason a crane is shaped the way it is is because it is mounted on a long, skinny tower, anchored to the ground. If you have antigrav cranes, you don't need the long arm, the counterweight, or the swivel action. You just antigrav the stuff to where you need it.

A scene from the opening credits of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. A building is under construction (shown in sped-up timelapse). Two cranes are shown assisting the work. They resemble present-day cranes, except instead of having the tower there is some kind of antigrav unit providing support to the long arm and counterweight.

I'm really really excited about #StarTrekStarfleetAcademy, particularly after seeing the trailer! It has enough new and old to please me and as a teacher of almost 20 years, I'm looking forward to seeing that perspective on the #StarTrek universe. A traveling Starfleet Academy ship (The USS Athena) - that has immense storytelling potential! Can't wait for early 2026! 🖖
