An M4.4 flare peaked at 22h08 UT 10 Dec.
A 10.7cm radio burst and type II radio emission were observed, indicating the eruption of a CME (coronal mass ejection).
No aurora tonight (8PM Mountain Standard Time) at 33N latitude, but reddish airglow was obvious to the north. Over time it drifted very slowly and became less obvious.
https://www.aurorasaurus.org/ was not reporting any aurora sightings at the same time...not even in Canada.

Sunspot 4274 just fired off yet another monsterโan X4-class solar flare early this morning. This blast wasnโt aimed squarely at Earth, but it did launch a fast CME thatโs expected to give our magnetic field a glancing smack on Nov. 16โ17.
A shortwave radio blackout hit the Indian Ocean during the eruption, and NASA models suggest we could see G1โG2 geomagnetic storms from the edge of this CME. Nothing like the wild Nov. 11โ12 event, but high-latitude sky watchers might still snag some auroras.

Geomagnetic conditions appear to have fully calmed down now. The solar radiation storm has also ended.
As far as the sun is concerned, the XRay flux has been down at C-levels since the X5.1 flare two days ago. The NOAA SWPC G3 storm watch will expire at midnight UT, and a G1 watch will be in place for tomorrow (14 Nov), due to the possibility of sub-storms.
The are no big flare players on the solar disc once AR4274 rotates around the limb, so you can have a chance to recharge the camera batteries.

Transpower is acting to protect its power grid by shutting off key sections to prevent damage. Some areas of New Zealand may lose power temporarily.
