🚨 ANOTHER POWERFUL X-FLARE!
Sunspot 4274 just fired off yet another monster—an X4-class solar flare early this morning. This blast wasn’t aimed squarely at Earth, but it did launch a fast CME that’s expected to give our magnetic field a glancing smack on Nov. 16–17.
A shortwave radio blackout hit the Indian Ocean during the eruption, and NASA models suggest we could see G1–G2 geomagnetic storms from the edge of this CME. Nothing like the wild Nov. 11–12 event, but high-latitude sky watchers might still snag some auroras.

Geomagnetic conditions appear to have fully calmed down now. The solar radiation storm has also ended.
As far as the sun is concerned, the XRay flux has been down at C-levels since the X5.1 flare two days ago. The NOAA SWPC G3 storm watch will expire at midnight UT, and a G1 watch will be in place for tomorrow (14 Nov), due to the possibility of sub-storms.
The are no big flare players on the solar disc once AR4274 rotates around the limb, so you can have a chance to recharge the camera batteries.

Aurora for the 2nd night in a row!
Seen in southern New Mexico at 33N latitude at 7:30PM Mountain Standard time.
Not as bright as last night...so far. Will continue to monitor.

The Aurora Borealis of last night as seen from a plane flying over the U.S. Simply stunning!

I got a pic of Multnomah Falls (east of Portland OR) with red aurora behind it - this is looking south. You know it's big when polar lights are south from here! (edit: It was dark so I goofed selecting the image. I added the pic of the falls, but the other was also taken there.) #AuroraBorealis #astronomy #SpaceWeather

The strong geomagnetic storms have triggered a "Grid Emergency" in New Zealand.
Transpower is acting to protect its power grid by shutting off key sections to prevent damage. Some areas of New Zealand may lose power temporarily.

Aurora in southern New Mexico - now with green bands added! (This was at approx 7:20PM Mountain Daylight time)
I'm taking images every 21 seconds, and the green bands move across a good portion of the frame in that short time span.
Florida is reporting aurora sightings! (3rd graphic)
2nd graphic shows the sky coverage of the wide angle lens I'm using. The aurora is 30 to 35 degrees above the horizon when it's bright.
