The Central Oregon Cascades disappear into summer haze, photographed from the Dee Wright Observatory.
Black and white really brings out the mood in scenes like this.

Black-and-white landscape photo taken from the Dee Wright Observatory in Oregon. Jagged lava fields and sparse dead trees fill the foreground. Beyond them are layered ridgelines and dense forests that gradually fade into wildfire haze. In the distance, mountain peaks with patches of snow rise into the smoky air. The overall scene is moody, atmospheric, and softened by the summer wildfire smoke.

Hiked up to Muir snowfield today; found a deep crack! My friend and I discussed our unused crevasse rescue skills and gratitude for not needing to use them. Our September turns are in!

Been doing a lot of backpacking recently, reaching some new sides of Tahoma (Rainier), Koma Kulshan (Baker) and a little in between. Im a bit behind on posts, but Ive been exploring some of the biggest glaciers and finding some of the oldest trees Washington state still has. More stories to come, seasons changing, new opportunities arising and the world has much to process. There is peace in the mountains. Hope you are finding it.

A snowboarder looks down a large crack in a glacier. A massive Mt Rainier can be seen in the background of a clear blue sky.

A narrow, dark water channel flows between two walls of glacial snow known as a crevasse. The crack appears quite deep, and its too dark to know how deep it is!

A mountainous Mt Rainier landscape featuring the Nisqually glacier, surrounded by rocky terrain under a clear blue sky. The mountain has patches of snow & glaciers tumbling down its steep slopes.
