Vimeo is asking me for age verification to continue access my own files, even if I had this account since 2007. Even if I was 1 year old when I created that account, I'd still be 20 years old now.
So why the ask? What a useless thing.

Vimeo lays off most of its staff, including the entire video team, just months after being bought by private equity.
I wonder what private equity has in store?
Bending Spoons purchased #AOL in October for $1.5 billion and #Vimeo in September for $1.38 billion. Right now, the same group is closing on #Eventbrite, the live events marketplace and website. That service allows users to browse, create, and promote local events. Last year, Meetup.
Before those purchases, they bought several companies that had to do with time tracking, invoicing, expense tracking, time-based reporting, etc.
It wasn’t very active, but I’ve deleted my #Vimeo account after refusing to jump thru the age verification hoops. https://www.businessinsider.com/vimeo-laying-off-staff-after-billion-sale-to-bending-spoons-2026-1
Is it just me or does the #Vimeo website get worse every time you visit it
@niklaskorz Bending spoons acquired a much loved camera app - Filmic Pro - and drove it to the grounds within months by wrecklessly monetising against the app's community.
#BendingSpoons are also buying #vimeo
Okay, I sort of get the idea for mature-content websites, but why on earth does Vimeo now have an age check? What "regional regulations" are they referring to?
So they expect people to upload credit card details or ID-card photos to a third-party agency, like the discord leak never happened.

My current 'Plus' plan on Vimeo is around £110 ($130) for a year with up to 200GB of storage/hosting. For some videos, I designate them as 'private' except for embedding on my site.
Could I achieve something similar with Peertube without having to worry about any of the technical side of things like hosting etc?
I wouldn't mind paying slightly more, but not multiples of what I currently have with Vimeo.
Any suggestions for a Vimeo alternative for uploading screen recordings for sharing (e.g. supports oembed) with some visibility controls e.g. "only people with the link"?
