Yep, currently free in the U.S. on #YouTube Movies & TV, 1993's "Army of Darkness", a film that I consider to be pretty much perfect within its admittedly narrow genre. Technically the third film in the "Evil Dead" horror trilogy, the film is more reasonably characterized as parody veering into outright comedy. I recommend it very highly. And don't forget the three words. And don't bother putting them in the replies here either! We all know them. Well, maybe not every last little syllable, but ...

You should see this short video from Davie504 on #YouTube’s sad treatment of content creators, the people who actually pay their bills.

tl;dr: Davie504 got a copyright strike (i.e. a successful copyright claim) for performing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, a piece that has been in the public domain for literally centuries. The copyright claim was made by some no-name troll. Three strikes within three months, and his channel will be disabled.

Creating content for YouTube seems to have been enshittified so much that I can’t imagine advising anyone to invest any time or energy into it. YouTube seems to empower copyright trolls. Their algorithm seems to prefer addictiveness to quality, and it changes often. I cannot imagine a smaller channel bearing this kind of business risk up front.

PS: Yes I know advertisers pay their bills. But without content creators, advertisers won’t have any reason to send YouTube money.

Currently free in the U.S. on #YouTube Movies and TV -- 1966's "Fantastic Voyage". This was a landmark film of sorts, that attempted (remember, no CGI!) to portray a team in a miniaturized submarine injected into a scientist's body to try save his life from an injury (i.e., being shot). This movie is all about the effects, and was of course the inspiration for the comedy "Innerspace" (1987). The pedigree of Fantastic Voyage is a bit complicated. Many people assume Isaac Asimov wrote the script, but he did not -- he wrote a novelization from the script, and that novelization apparently was released before the release of the film, causing obvious confusion. He also attempted -- not very successfully -- to explain the obvious awful scientific goofs in the film. The most outrageous of which I bitched about when I walked out of the theater having seen the film originally -- what happened to all the parts of that submarine when they went back to being full size inside the scientist's body when the miniaturization hour was up? Hmm? Hmm? Still, the film does feature Raquel Welch, because, well, Raquel Welch. A must see if you've never seen it, and worth watching again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxeDJ35IA34

Currently free in the U.S. on #YouTube Movies & TV, what I consider personally to be the scariest horror film I've ever seen. Many years ago, during a 24 hour Halloween film fest, stretched out on a blanket in the middle of the night in the dark Grand Ballroom at the UCLA Student Union -- the same room that would be filled with folding chairs as we waited our turn -- usually for hours -- to make changes to our schedule via the "agents" operating terminals for the early URSA computer system running on the campus IBM 369/91 [is this sentence long enough yet?], I watched Roman Polanski's 1968 masterpiece "Rosemary's Baby". No violence. No blood. Just a slowly escalating horror, as a young couple in a new apartment find themselves the focus of the next door neighbors' attention -- a bit too much attention.
