In short: The videos are not being shows on the peertube instance to other people on the instance unless you interact with it. So people like and comment and share the videos you watch on PeerTube. There is nothing wrong with shameless advertising of libre stuff. In fact we should do more of it.

@Techaltar I love #Nebula.
Signed up awhile ago and now its subscriptions provide me the most of my big screen time. And the weekly "Happy Friday!.." is on the top of my list.

I almost ditched #YouTube by now.

ok but on the absolutely microscopic chance that someone who worked at #google on the #youtube backend actually sees this

what actually happens when i click on a video with 253 views from seven years ago and it just buffers for a dozen seconds? obviously the local youtube nodes don't have a copy of every video ever.

does it just like, copy it from The Master Server and play it from a local node? does it stream directly from The Master Server? is it just sitting in a fifteen quadrillion terabyte S3 bucket and has to be downloaded first? is it having to transcode it from some ancient format to AV1? a combination of the above?

does The Master Server have a sticker of the attached image on it?

In case anyone is looking for evidence of why the 'we value your privacy' promises of proprietary platforms are inherently empty, and can't be trusted ...

"Meta servers download every shared file in Facebook Messenger and Instagram DM in full—even if it’s gigabytes in size ... Meta insisted it wasn’t a bug. When we published videos demonstrating the issue, they asked YouTube to take them down."
