Why is there not standardized Media Fragment for plaintext? Imagine opening a plaintext file in a browser, and adding something like #line=333 to link to the line 333. Easy to share with someone and readable enough. Yet the two only types of sub-non-HTML-file linking we have are media fragments for videos ( #t=33) and text fragments (https://codeberg.org/aartaka/aed/raw/branch/main/README.txt#:~:text=WHAT%E2%80%99S%20XED) that I have vented about already. The barren wasteland of non-linkable non-HTML Web.

So I think I'll need to read up on it a bit. I understand that "Passkeys" try to do something similar as SSH pubkeys.
But do you know a good technical explainer of what's going on and how it works?

(Yes, I could search myself but I am looking for recommendations of articles you have read that you found helpful and clear.)

EDIT: https://passkeys.io did make some things clearer.

@dch @maycontainart you can link directly to a timecode in a YouTube video by including a #t=XmYs fragment in your URL, which the YouTube video playback client will interpret, e.g.:

https://www.youtube.com/live/qdEMmM5g27M#t=6m26s

My #EuroBSDcon talk „25 Years of building Resilient Systems“ is at 6:26 on the live stream url https://m.youtube.com/live/qdEMmM5g27M slides etc at https://people.freebsd.org/~dch/talks/eurobsdcon2025/ and thanks again to @maycontainart for lifting up my tedious text into a glorious technicolour feast.

#DistributedSystems #ResilientSystems

PS I’d link to the precise time but I have no idea how. Also what’s the best non-YouTube alternative to link to?

@dlakelan @abcdw @charliemac it may be that you need to override the #:select keyword argument, like in this case: https://codeberg.org/fishinthecalculator/gocix-mirror/src/branch/main/modules/oci/services/containers.scm#L700

You should pass it a function like:

(use-modules (ice-9 match))

(define-public (staged-module-name? name)
"Return true if NAME (a list of symbols) denotes a Guix or staged module."
(match name
(('guix _ ...) #t)
(('gnu _ ...) #t)
(('staged _ ...) #t)
(_ #f)))

This is what I'm doing in gocix: https://codeberg.org/fishinthecalculator/gocix-mirror/src/branch/main/modules/oci/self.scm#L9 .

Just got our "United Federation of the Fediverse" #shirts that @Lioh sent!

WOW! They're incredible #quality. Honestly some of the nicest #t-shirts I've ever owned. SUPER soft! Plus now my wife and I can represent the #Fediverse MORE in #public

And of course Lioh was right! #Americans are larger than #Europeans. lol I'm not really overweight ... much ... and I wear a Large in the #US and Lioh sent an XL which JUST fits. Thanks for the 2XL as well!

EVERYONE go check out these shirts and pick up your own. I can't get over how good they are!

And thank you so so much to Lioh for creating the shirts and sending us some.

And thank you so much to @mullana for the wonderful artwork on the shirt!
