Crocus bananza
Crocuses are busy blooming in lawns, peeking out from leaves, being fresh and telling us spring is near

A variety of very tiny crocus blossoms dot this border, in colors ranging from pale yellow to pale pink to shades of blue and purple. The border is full of emerging green plants. It is carpeted with green moss. There are a few dry brown leaves as well, to remind us of seasons past.

A burst of traditional lavender and purple crocuses pop up around the grassy lawn. The bright orange anthers provide a vivid pop of color. Dried brown Japanese maple leaves are sprinkled throughout.

Two bright yellow crocuses pop up amid a display of velvety looking orangey pink heuchera leaves. The heuchera leaves are rounded and nicely veined. Mossy rocks trim the border. The color contrasts are interesting.

Somehow lichens growing on the side of a fence like this look alien to me. But why shouldn't they grow that way?
#Photography #SeattleWashington #SeattleWinter #OurNeighborhood #MapleLeafNeighborhood #Lichens #LichenSubscribe

Some lichens are growing in small patches on the vertical side of a wooden fence. A couple of species of fruticose oak moss branch up from the surface, like seaweed on the ocean of air. The one at the top is possibly a powdery blue green colored Evernia, the one bottom right a olive green lungwort lichen. There are small clumps of blue green shield lichens, with overlapping "scales" making them raised from the surface. The wood of the fence is covered with green algae, working hard to help decompose the fence.

Tulips trees (Liriodendron tulipifera) are one of my favorites, with their straight trunks and majestic shapes. Their leaves and flowers are pretty too. A native of eastern North America, it's a lovely park tree.

A tall, elegant tulip tree covered with golden leaves soars against the hazy blue and white skies. The lawn around the tree is carpeted with the four pointed leaves in shades of yellow to brown. The tree is backed by pine trees. Off to the left you can see more lawn leading down to the shore of Lake Washington, with the neighborhood spread across the distant shore, backed by a blue line of mountains.

Some tulip tree leaves fallen to the ground; they are atop a base of older, dark brown leaves; they have a shape vaguely similar to maple leaves, but the gour to six pointed lobes are not dentate. The leaves are bright or light yellow, orange, and tan. There are a few raindrops sitting on a few leaves.

Look what the wind blew in! #Autumn #Photography #SeattleWashington #SeattleAutumn #AutumnLeaves

A scattering of fall colored leaves, including Japanese maple leaves with thin lobes in shades of orange and red, red red maples leaves(!), and bright yellow leaves from some shrubs on a gray pavement bordering a garden. There are gray rocks in the flower bed, a couple of mushrooms with white caps and long thin brown Douglas fir cones spotted with white sap. The effect is almost like a rich dark colored tapestry.

Beautiful cabbage
#Photography#SeattleSummer#PicardoPPatch #CommunityGardens#Gardens#SeattleWashington

Looking down into a purple cabbage in a garden plot: the large rounded leaves form a spiral, going from the outside's velvety green with purple overtones and red veins, to darker purple as you approach the deep purple heart. The leaves are spread out at the outside, and more tightly furled as they grow near the heart, where the bud that will be the harvested cabbage hides, protected by the curled leaves. A few water drops cling here and there, remains from when an early morning gardener watered the plot before the heat of the day.
