In a quiet November atmosphere, a huge beech spreads its canopy over a junction of two country roads. A large boulder the size of a large boulder is in the foreground, taken from a low position so we can see only the overcast sky above it and not the fields around. The rock is completely covered in lichen and moss, because it’s been lying at the side of this field for quite some time. I strongly suspect it was brought there by a farmer together with a number of similarly huge stones nearby, that aren’t in the picture, and that they were originally a megalithic tomb the farmer wanted to get rid of because it was in the way. That happened to very many such neolithic sites in the 19th and 20th century here. Vividly coloured autumn leaves from the beech are lying on the rock, and someone who may have been me placed a small round stone on top of it.
