That’s not mist, it’s steam from geothermal activity. At Kerosene Creek, about twenty minutes drive out of Rotorua.

Taking care of friend's dog and I captured this on our walk. iNat says “Pelt Lichen” or better yet “Dog Lichen”. Wikipedia took it one step further, “Because its reproductive bodies resemble the teeth of a dog, it was used as a treatment for rabies in the European Middle Ages”. No mention if said treatment was any good.
