@thejapantimes Let's add some criticism of the Cambodian regime: " witnessed the murder of a man who had his throat cut by a compound manager after he was caught trying to escape" -- "police visited their compounds regularly, including to remove dead bodies, but without taking any action against the managers" -- "Many people died" -- "murder, rape and torture" -- "evidence pointing towards state complicity or deliberate inaction" -- "Cambodian authorities appear to be doing nothing to help"

That's what Amnesty International is writing:

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2026/01/cambodia-growing-humanitarian-crisis-as-escaped-scamming-compound-survivors-tell-of-murder-rape-and-torture/

I feel

towards the Cambodian Hun Sen/Hun Manet regime when I am seeing this.

Cambodia: Growing humanitarian crisis as escaped scamming compound survivors tell of murder, rape and torture

Thousands of people who recently escaped or were released from scamming compounds in Cambodia where they were subjected to grave abuses including rape and torture are now stranded and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, Amnesty International said after gathering harrowing testimony from survivors. Interviews with recently enslaved people – almost all foreign nationals – […]

Western strategic dissonance, U.N. cowardice, a gutted civil society and cynical Thai aggression are providing cover for a weakened Hun Sen https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2025/12/29/japan/the-world-is-failing-cambodia/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #japan #cambodia #thailand #defense #cambodiathailandrelations #hunsen #hunmanet #cpp

When weeks of tensions escalated into a major border conflict with Thailand last week, former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen appeared to take charge of his country's response. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/07/31/asia-pacific/politics/cambodia-hun-sen-border-thailand/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #asiapacific #politics #hunsen #cambodia #thailand #southeastasia

It was a Thai court decision last year that swept Paetongtarn Shinawatra into the prime minister's office and now, once again, the fate of the 38-year-old novice politician lies in the hands of the judiciary. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/07/01/asia-pacific/politics/thai-premier-fate-limbo/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #asiapacific #politics #paetongtarnshinawatra #thailand #hunsen #thaksinshinawatra
