At the Climate March in The Hague. As the climate crisis deepens, it's not much of a theme in the Dutch election campaign.
I heard it's because climate is 'only' the #4 concern of voters. But why not ask questions on #4 in the debates?
While immigration is talked up, climate is silenced down.

"The earth has reached its first catastrophic tipping point linked to greenhouse gas emissions, with warm water coral reefs now facing a long-term decline and risking the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people, according to a new report.
The report from scientists and conservationists warns the world is also “on the brink” of reaching other tipping points, including the dieback of the Amazon, the collapse of major ocean currents and the loss of ice sheets.
But some experts have questioned the report’s claims about the fate of coral reefs, with one saying while they are in decline there is evidence they could remain viable at higher temperatures than suggested.
Tipping points are recognised by scientists as moments when a major ecosystem reaches a point where severe degradation is inevitable.
The world’s coral reefs are home to about a quarter of all marine species but are considered one of the most vulnerable systems to global heating."

CLIMATE CHANGED 2025
Due to the rapid melting of glaciers and the warming of the oceans, sea levels could rise by up to 1.3 meters by the end of this century, flooding coastal areas of St. Petersburg, southern Rostov-on-Don, Kerch, Adler, and even Kronstadt.
By the year 2300, the rise could reach a catastrophic 5.6 meters, scientists warn.
According to climatologists, the oceans are now warming four times faster than 40 years ago.

Hey climate conscious people everywhere - PLEASE stop implying or saying that the earth would be better off without humans!!!! Malthusianism, the debunked "overpopulation" myth etc are cruel anti-human ideologies that easily lead to racism, eugenics, and any form of welcoming mass death. That's horrifying.
Yes, humans have caused climate disasters and extinctions and biodiversity loss and soil erosion and the hole in the ozone layer and all sorts of bad stuff. But it was only ever a minority of humans who drove those things. Humanity overall has an awe-inspiring ability to not only adapt ourselves to our surroundings, but also to adapt them, change them. The ecological footprint, so to speak.
That's what we need right now. We need to increase our ecological footprint! The earth is an abused child, what this child needs is not neglect and abandonment (humanity dying out or civilisation crashing or humans stopping to interfere in any way) but SUPPORT to heal and grow. Sure, as an abused child myself I know what it feels like to dream of neglect as "salvation" from active abuse. But in reality, that's just a more subtle form of abuse. It's still also abuse.
With great power comes great responsibility. As humanity we undeniably have great power on earth. It is therefore our responsibility to USE that power for good! To not neglect it or ignore it or be in denial about it. We need to do good things with it. We need to heal ourselves, our communities, societies and ecosystems.
We have unique abilities to understand, communicate with, oversee and plan for ecosystems, locally and globally, that no other lifeform has. We need to be stewards and caretakers of the land, of the watersheds and of the entire planet. We could make this world so beautiful and bountiful for everyone!
