Another Mastodon weirdness: somebody responded to one of my posts, but it didn't show up in my notifications.

I had to go to my original post and check the responses to see it?!

@dusoft A longstanding Mastodon quirk and source of debate: Mastodon generates notifications for mentions, not replies. It is possible to reply to a post without mentioning the author.

@julian Wow! I haven't known that. What a weird bug - definitely not a quirk, just plain bug. There is clear user intent in notifications and Mastodon does not honor it.

Personally I'm not a fan either, I think direct replies should generate notifications even if the author was not tagged.
