This week, our rules on reducing plastic pellets, a major source of microplastics in the environment, came into force:

🧹 companies must have spill clean-up and risk management plans for packaging, handling, and equipment
🚛 non-EU carriers must have an EU representative
📃 operators handling >1500 tonnes of pellets annually need to obtain a certificate of compliance
⛴️ requirements for maritime transport

For us, our oceans and wildlife.

New law reducing microplastic pollution enters into force

The new rules will help ensure fair competition across the Single Market and support Europe’s transition to a sustainable economy.

It features a ninja figure in the centre, composed of small dots representing plastic pellets, with an intense expression and a crouched stance. On either side of the ninja, there are illustrations of aquatic creatures, including fish and shrimp, along with blue coral-like plants. The background is white, and the image includes the EU flag at the bottom right corner. The overall theme appears to be about combating microplastics in the environment.

Microplastics seems to be harmful for health of humans and other animals and so stealing our healthspan and possibly lifespan. While the real leverage for robust #longevity is biotechnology, removing such annoying things like #microplastics is very helpful. That way the aging damage removal can be easier to done, so available sooner and costing less. Many thanks 🙏

It pairs well with your push for #biotech and health union 👍

Brussels bids to ditch routine pesticide rechecks in major regulatory shake-up

The Commission says regularly re-examining pesticides like glyphosate is slow and politicized. Health and environmental groups fear the end of a key safety backstop.
