My wife has vetoed me walking on the trail until they get to the bottom of this. It sucks because Rivertrail isn’t just beautiful, but it lets you access just about any part of the city on foot or bike.

Is that the Mac with the ‘portrait mode’ monitor?!
@fname That's the one!
Meanwhile, Larry Ellison and his pals have locked out of TikTok the account promoting the new, scathing documentary about Elon Musk.
Big (Tech) Media is on a censorship rampage aimed to shut down the critics of the escalating right-wing extremism.

Robin's ballot for the 2026 General Election is here! It is, of course, centered on Petaluma, California, and I took a sparing approach given I'm still in recovery from surgery.
I include links to a few voter guides, and a rundown of how I am voting ... or how I would vote, if I were in a couple adjacent districts of note.

@Remittancegirl this! Every time. They keep playing in the yard of the enemy. It makes me so confused.
"Don't use X," they said, posting on X

Wow. Cook shifted another 11 house races a step closer to the Democrats. All but 2 of the seats needed for a majority are now colored lightly blue. There are 21 seats in toss-up.
Of course, that doesn't guarantee anything. The world is more complicated than that.
Still.
I'mo have a slug of rye and try not to doomerize everything.
When a hard reset isn't good enough.

The current U.S. administration is using AI to surveil the social media accounts of noncitizens for views it doesn’t like. We’re challenging that in court, and we just won a big early ruling. Read our deep dive on the decision:
@eff you go EFF!

@cwebber @bkuhn @copiesofcopies I agree but believe that using #LLM tech for X is not acceptable almost whatever X is (certainly for finding problems is not excusable as a category).
Using them at the very least means normalising their use, first for yourself, then others and makes it much harder to say what is and isn't ok.
Anything that helps this tech is helping those behind it, techno fascism (ultimately genocide) climate Armageddon (also genocide) and numerous other widespread harms.
You draw a line, without evidence, from folks trying to use proprietary software to undermine the system by improving FOSS to genocide.
That argument is risible on its face without a library worth of evidence.
Big Tech has, for a generation, primarily propagated widespread harms on society. FOSS took a pragmatic approach: try to undermine the system by using what was available to make human-respecting alternatives.
That work continues regardless of the fad of the day.
