Fog hug! 🤗
I went to my local hardware store to pick up 5 gallon buckets – and also came home with this ornament.

RIP Claude. You were a good gator.

A slight change in angle makes all the difference... I took these three photographs within the span of a minute, each time slightly adjusting my position relative to the plants (and the sun). But the difference in lighting is striking!

Oh my stars, we've lost a legend. Rest in power, Alice Wong.

"Rainbow alert!" – my partner, letting my kid and me know there's an active rainbow.

OK, I'm gonna rewatch some episodes from "Why Women Kill", now. Not because of the episode, but because I was already watching recently, and stamping down my frustration about the show being cancelled.
I'm guessing it was cancelled because too many important shitty guys were afraid it would give the women in their lives some ideas?
Gotten to that episode of the first season, when they visit the young man on life-support dying of AIDS.
Shit this brings back so many memories, when I was so very young.
Back in the 80's, the owners of the little shop I worked in lived upstairs. As did many shop owners in #NoeValley.
I remember my boss's mom, also my boss, bringing Jim milkshakes upstairs. He was fading.
And then he was gone, like so many others. Just gone.
"... the reality is stark. According to the 2024 Knight Frank Wealth Report, there are about 225,000 individuals in the U.S. with net assets of $30 million or more, just 0.07% of the population. Far from expanding opportunity, this excessive wealth locks millions out of the chance to innovate and build, weakening growth for all." https://time.com/7325632/universal-basic-income-millionaire/
@codinghorror @blogdiva I suspect at least 10,000 of those people live in the #sfba
KEEP THE AURORA PICS COMING FOLKS!
(I wonder if we'll be able to see it in #SFBA tonight?)

How earthquake safe are Vancouver condos?
@danluu there are some great studies on building demolition where they put dummies in different places and then assess how well they did post demolition. IIRC being next to things >> under things (between beds, not under tables). The #sfba has earthquakes just enough that we do something about it. I worry about the other parts of the whole west coast, b/c the risk seems to be similar but kind of understandably it's harder to motivate people to deal with hypothetical risks. #earthquake

Well, here's one thing SF city government is doing that's good, at least! Also nice to see the National Guard used for something helpful.
- San Francisco residents who get CalFresh will receive gift cards from the city with emergency funds to cover the missing benefits.
- California is fast tracking $80 million in emergency funding to food banks and deploying the National Guard to ramp up staffing at those foodbanks to distribute food.
- Several Bay Area restaurants, including Al Pastor Papi in San Francisco, are offering free meals for children who receive CalFresh benefits and discounts for parents.
