A damp bird in a dark area of forest is standing on some downed trunks. The bird has gray underparts, a gray face, and a hint of chestnut around the back of the head. The legs are longish for the plumpness of the birb. This is a Chestnut-naped Antpitta, and if you click for a closer view, you will suddenly notice that the birb has bits of spider web draped here and there on head and breast. When I go on my wanders I come across beauty, everywhere, of all kinds. There are specific places in the forests near our home where there are perfect moss gardens. I return to them often. To admire their richness, their deep eloquence. #mosstodon #moss #forest #森＃苔

A green tree full of branches protrudes over a misty green hillside. To the casual eye, perhaps nothing to see here-- until you notice the fluff of vivid scarlet. Then the entire toucan jumps into shape. This is the Black-billed Mountain-toucan. With her red/black bill and white breast, she just looks like any patch of pattern in the rain forest trees... until you notice the red vent. Our hosts spotted this bird from, like, a mile away. Ha. In the background is a thick conifer forest on a hill that raise slightly toward the left side of the frame. In the foreground and on the right is the flat surface of a frozen lake. A steep eroded bank juts out from the left. It is curved in a crescent shape up from the lake. Three tall conifer trees that have been growing for decades on the bank have, over the years, had the bottom of there root systems exposed due to the erosion of the bank. This has left them balance over the lake on nothing but there roots. Otherwise the trees look green and healthy.
