@cstross Masked blackshirts block busy port - no arrests. Ninety year old priest holds up a homemade placard declaring genocide evil, arrested right away as a "terrorist". Starmer's legacy to the UK, and I don't see Burnham rushing to change anything.
Loads of fighting age people in burkas invade our coast and cause massive disruption. I thought Patirots hate that?
Google has become an enemy of the open web, and it's increasingly locking down Android to dominate (with Apple) mobile computing. https://keepandroidopen.org/ A once-principled company gets more and more control-freakish, for money and power.
Nothing Google does now is surprising, just predictable.
@dangillmor The simple warning that power corrupts has a polarised version with absolute power. But it fails to describe this incremental obsessive steering towards the latter.
Something that happens so often that we need to rethink how power/responsibility is handled. Across the planet.
Our genetics often still operate with small, egalitarian community notions.
We’re delighted to share that our talk: “Sovereignty Is More Than a Server: Public Digital Commons with Bonfire” has been accepted for the Open Source Conference Luxembourg 🎉 !
We’re looking forward to discussing why digital sovereignty requires more than self-hosting and how public digital commons and projects like Bonfire Networks can help build more open, democratic, and resilient digital ecosystems.
If you’re attending, we’d love to meet you, exchange ideas, and learn about what you’re working on.<span class="invisible"> #digitalsovereignty #commons #bonfire

One of the weird things about having a smartphone a few years older than most people’s is observing the incremental elongation of screenshots relative to mine.
I reckon the mean aspect ratio has now exceeded the Kubrick brick threshold
@urlyman I have a bottom of the range Nokia that cost £130 new. TBH I don't know why anyone would need more processing power in a smartphone, my only regret is that the bootloader is locked down. But I digress. A few middle aged people have expressed interest in it because the screen is relatively large, and they have all bought expensive phones that are too small to read properly. So big slow bricks FTW. Aspect ratio is 16:9ish I think.
@bentsukun I like KDE. Every time I switch to it, I feel more productive, too. Maybe because I've used it for so many years that my muscle memory is still strong.
@stefano I used KDE 1 and 2 a lot, then moved away from it because I thought the Audi was too overloaded. The newer Plasma versions have done a great job to strip it down to essentials IMHO.

“AI is cringe” is one of the better developments to happen this year.
@libreoffice hello i just upgraded to 26.8 via flatpak. there is too much padding in libreoffice calc now that Cells tools is hidden in 26.8.

been running this 45 TB disk array for some time now.
the intention behind it was to provide services to the community.
i was thinking, what sort of services do you want to see or use?
some ideas:
- IRC
- gemini/gopher, there are some forum softwares
- neocities instance
i'd like there to be some way to share this disk space in a useful way.
@dirtycommo how serious is your "not breaking any law in Western Australia" rule cause that seems potentially like a lot of laws to understand
