I don't know, but from what I've heard, the whole point of Bonfire is to be able to combine extensions to build the flexible Fedi app your group needs, so in theory, with sufficient development it "should" be able to do what's needed, as long as the right extensions are sufficiently developed.

Personally I'm watching it with interest, with the view to possibly use it in the future to create a network for local sports teams, ie sharing matches, photos etc.

It's not a certainty right now, but if we do, we'd be donating regularly towards Bonfire's development, and hopefully other communities/businesses will do the same.

The fediverse doesn't really have a full replacement for FarceBook yet, but I suggest you check out @bonfire which has just hit a 1.0 release;

Older fediverse apps that have been compared to FB include Friendica and Hubzilla. You can explore more fediverse software here;

... and here too;

But this one needs some updates. I was recently shoulder-tapped to take over as maintainer, and I'm working on it.

The first thing I'd suggest is a collaborative UX design process. Survey some people who've used Neighbourly, past and present, and find out what the pleasure and pain points are. Then customise the tech around the insights from that.

Among existing tech that could be used for a hyperlocal social service, maybe something like Hometown?

Or maybe Bonfire Community, or a @bonfire flavour specifically for the purpose?

Here's another cool feature of Bonfire. One account, many profiles.

When you create an account, you can create multiple profiles, each with it's own unique followers, content and settings (and emojis!).

1 account. 1 password. Many profiles.

Ownership of profiles can be shared with others. A news publication can share posting responsibilities, for example.
