— the president’s "renaming" of Lake Ontario is a bigger deal than many realize.
In fact, says Abramson, it’s “a bit of an emergency.”
“The argument that Trump invaded Canada today is more compelling than many realize,” posted Abramson.
“The border between Canada and the U.S. runs through the middle of Lake Ontario.
By claiming to have the power to rename the entire lake,
Trump is claiming the lake.
That's invasion by declaration.”
According to Abramson, while many are being dismissive and even joking about Trump’s order,
“the practicalities of what just happened today will hit like a ton of bricks in a matter of hours or days — not weeks.
Trump declaring sovereign authority over a body of water half owned by Canada is a big f—— deal.”

it’s the same with the renaming of the Gulf Of México ―it’s an affront on the sovereignty of México and all the countries that share it's coasts (so Cuba, Jamaica, Guatemala, etc.)
Imagine the kindest person you know. A person whose voice you find nonthreatening, even calming, even when they're disagreeing with you.
Next time you feel bothered by the tone of a post, and you're tempted to bite back, instead take a deep breath, and reread the post in that person's voice. See if it still sounds as aggressive or patronising or whatever it was that bothered you the first time.

Why would a response to a post of mine be hidden behind "filtered notifications" and something about perhaps I know them?
I have no notification filters. I don't restrict who can respond. I have not blocked or muted them. I can find no reason why their reply should not appear in the regular notification list.
I've had this happen a couple of times now.
