It’s unbelievable that I have to keep telling adults the same thing I tell my kids:
The goal is NOT to do it fast; it’s to do things right.
If you’re going to have to do the same thing five times because you rushed through it (and as a result, it’s incomplete, messy, incomprehensible, or doesn’t meet the standards, etc.), then you’ve wasted more of your and others' time.
Doing it right (or as well as you can), even if it takes longer, leads to a better outcome for everyone.
@yabellini Often, yes. Occasionally there's a deadline and a half-arsed job is better than something that's completely useless because it's missed the deadline. And there's always my grandfather's "if a job's worth doing it's worth doing badly".

It's still wild to me that corpos and their legal teams haven't been more openly pissed about billion dollar companies shipping such risk-increasing garbage with a straight face.
@afewbugs I feel this kind of thing is counterproductive too, because even assuming the infrastructure to do this at scale will come, what proportion of our pollution is that, really? Specific plastics, presumably not all in recoverable condition, creates an industry incentivised to make more.
Obviously reusing some is better than nothing, but not if the result is "see? there's no problem with producing this stuff at all, we can just invent our way out of it"

I believe it would be useful to see people opening their eyes and start using their heads to think and do different.
@joaopinheiro @richpuchalsky That would be nice. However, when most folks get their equipment from stores or as a hand me down, it's a privileged position for us to take.
Especially as we look down the barrel of our hardware market at the moment.
To order Linux hardware is expensive. Yes we can install Linux and provide an alternative stack. But folks require training and constant support.
Which most of us in our field do not make available. So how do we build the community support?

We don't appreciate how great it is to have free art galleries in this country. You can just wander in to so many places and have the most relaxing time away from life's stresses, and it doesn't cost a penny. You don't even have to be an art fan to find the peace in that.
