Have a peaceful evening, as much as Theo had a peaceful afternoon asleep, basking in the sun.
@ami_angelwings "It is useless work that darkens the heart. The delight of the nursing mother, of the scholar, of the successful hunter, of the good cook, of the skillful maker, of anyone doing needed work and doing it well, - this durable joy is perhaps the deepest source of human affection and of sociality as a whole." - Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dispossessed
Type design is 10x more fun and productive when you don't use Glyphs and just vibecode your own tools.
Designers should carve their own tools like calligraphers of the Arabic script carve their own reed pens.
You have a unique perspective and design style, don't dull it by using a tool designed to fit the most generic workflows possible.
The RoboFont design philosophy was right they just didn't actually follow it with RoboFont because it was not open-source.
"The Temple of Time" (1846) by Emma Willard.⠀
From our essay by Susan Schulten exploring the pioneering work of Emma Willard (1787–1870), a leading feminist educator whose innovative maps of time laid the groundwork for the charts and graphics of today: https://publicdomainreview.org/essay/emma-willard-maps-of-time

Let's pretend CloudFlare was full-on, 100% "Hitler-loving Nazis"
Arguing with them online is STILL not the answer. Nazis LOVE that stuff.
And you're not helping by trashing someone with one foot in the door, who doesn't know just how bad they are. You're just pushing them closer to the Nazis.
Vitriolic voices, even for a just cause, are not helping the Fediverse. So I think we could build trust systems that take megaphones away from the trolls.
@benpate @jdp23 @rakoo I think this is getting at the heart of the issue. There are lots of what we'll call edge cases where someone mentions Cloudflare and honestly doesn't know their history. They then get clobbered by four or five reply guys calling them out on supporting fascists. It's overkill.
For my part, the number of times that people have massively misunderstood what I was saying and instead of asking a clarifying question, proceeded to completely overreact has happened quite often. It's exhausting.
This isn't about "allowing Nazis" it's about seeing them hiding behind dust bunnies everywhere.
I co-proposed/wrote the #Codeberg vibe-coding ban and all I got was a lot of haters in my mentions.
And a nearly 70% approval rate, with one of the highest voter turnouts the association had afaik (and one that's comparable to the last EU elections). 😎
@lauren @LabSpokane I got my start as a technical writer by ghostwriting four chapters of a 1991 John C Dvorak & Bernard J David book, "Dvorak's Inside Track to the Mac." Neither John nor Bernard wrote a word of that book, except perhaps the acknowledgments (where I'm mentioned). The first book with my name on the cover came next year; I co-authored it with Bernard and wrote my half while he hired ghostwriters for his. I got my first solo book later the same year and went on to write 80 more.
As I speculated in my Disintermedia blog piece about the MOLE Trainers, a copyright case has gone against misAnthropic, ruling that feeding a text to a MOLE is *not* Fair Use, but a violation of the author's copyright. This report suggests that Anthropic didn't even appeal, they just folded and handed over US$1.5 billion in settlement payments, and agreed to pay ongoing royalties going forward;

@blogdiva I find it very telling that they had the cadaver covers so readily available. They were running that presentation on wishes and anxiety, and they knew it.

waaaaaaait for it…
Spark is back up. I serve it via Cloudflare Tunnels, and I've been having to restart them pretty often, lately. Not sure what's going on.
“If ABC News Radio had been upfront about using pre-recorded or recycled newscasts, we could’ve evaluated whether that aligned with our expectations. Instead, we believed we had a live network news service. That’s a big difference.”
@samlitzinger Wow, the affiliate stations themselves don't know they're getting a pre-recorded feed? That's outrageous.
What alternative is left for national radio news? Fox?
@grassrootsforeurope a lot of the brexit voters are remains now

Also, put "mid is mid" for clarification :ablobcatnod:
Now that the CEO of Flock has called deflock.me a terrorist organization, I'd hate for other people to know about these other flock watchdog groups.
Please don't go on these websites, I beg you.
https://Alpr.wtf - Every U.S. jurisdiction using ALPR, plus how to file info requests.
https://EyesOnFlock.com - Crowdsourced map of Flock cameras and city contracts.
https://Deflock.me - Nationwide ALPR map tracking Flock deployments, removals, and resistance.
https://HaveIBeenFlocked.com — Quick check to see if Flock is watching your neighborhood.
https://DontGetFlocked.com — Plots your route, counts ALPR/Flock cameras, and suggests surveillance-free alternatives.

One of those days where the lure of disappearing in a sprinter van by myself for six months is looming pretty large. Onwards.
Hi, this is a friendly reminder:
Put "higher is better" or "lower is better" next to you benchmark data or graphs.
Thank you so much.
For years, I would get mildly annoyed at developers pitching their apps over email with a typo in my last name.
Now, they're the first emails I read because I can tell they were sent by a human.
@viticci Hearing my last name mispronounced is how I knew it was scammers calling me years ago.
