The Space Shuttle could hold a flying laboratory called Spacelab in its cargo bay. Three French-made computers ran Spacelab. I opened up a Spacelab computer and found that instead of a microprocessor, it is built from a multitude of simple chips. Let's take a closer look at the computer...

Think that Trump's slush fund is audacious because he's stealing BILLIONS? Wait till you learn how Musk is stealing TRILLIONS.

National museums in England report 10% decrease in young visitors.
Footfall remains 16% lower than it was in 2018-19, the last full pre-pandemic financial year, when comparing museums open in both time periods.

Talked to a software engineer at Microsoft working on Copilot Studio today at a social event and he said he was ashamed that he hadn’t written a single line of code in over three months. “I used to take pride in my work.” (They simply create plans in neutral language and feed it to the LLM which generates the code. They can’t even do human code reviews anymore as there’s too much code being generated.)
He said that a lot of them were waiting for a catastrophic event (something that would take down crucial infrastructure) to get top management to reverse course. He seemed to think such a failure was very likely.
Given what we’ve been seeing recently, I tend to agree with him. Although I feel they will just double down. There’s too much money in the pot for them to fold.

Having to do a wanking motion in order to do something AI-related feels a bit on the nose.

...sorry, what does Fox News count as? Disorganized? And what about Postmedia papers that Matt takes a cheque from? They're just Fox Canada.

A kind person said to me this week words to the effect of "Neil, I love talking with you. You make chatting so easy!"
And now, dear reader, I - someone who is not a very people person - will share with you the two secrets of my critically acclaimed prowess:
1) "Oh {wow, cool,my,yes,no,oops, dear}, tell me more about that!"
2) Listening - genuinely listening - and asking questions.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
@neil I am crap at small talk, I am totally going to try this. Thanks for sharing.
@rixx 😲🤦🫂
While I haven't gotten my thoughts together on it all, I feel like Nat @index had a pretty great write-up:
I'm incredibly pleased to announce that the microcode for the Intel 80386 has been decoded.
It was an group effort by a bunch of talented people to extract and correct the physical bits, but the major work of decoding them was done by reenigne - you may know him from such incredible PC demos as 8088 MPH and Area 5150, as well as being the person who decoded the 8088 microcode previously.
Please, check out his writeup.

So, has Iran released a lego rap saying Trump's a lying dipshit yet or is this peace deal real this time?

That very much sounds like Trump is saying the war is over.)

@jaz saw it again today (as a volunteer ticket collector)… just as excellent 👌
Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed.
