I have always wondered why Winston Churchill's last name was spelled with just one H.
Assuming his lastname was from a place called Church Hill, it seemed odd to me. So today I looked it up.
It turns out, his family is named after the village of Churchill in Oxfordshire. And in that village the old church is NOT located on a hill, and the name has nothing to do with that. Instead, the village used to be named Cercelle, which became Cerzhulla, which became Chirchehull, which became Churchill.

Jeg har sett noen tut her i dag om energiforsying i Europa som er oppsiktsvekkende dersom det er sant, men som ikke refereres i norske redaktørstyrte medier, det jeg kan se. Det vil også være oppsiktsvekkende dersom dette er fake news (men på en annen måte).
Klyper meg i armen og videreformidler ikke - men jeg lurer på hva som skjer.

I admittedly i don’t have that many coding client projects left these days but in the ones I’ve got left, most of the coders I work with have adopted LLMs
For what it’s worth, they do seem to understand much less, work much slower towards the project’s actual goals, with much more code, and at a lower quality
While asking sillier questions
But they think they’re working so much faster because the tools find the occasional bug and generates so much code

The very think tank which defined Trump's transition plans, the Heritage Foundation, ranks Denmark's economic freedom 7th in the world.
The US is ranked 22nd.

Am 1. September 1939 lässt Hitler Polen durch die Wehrmacht überfallen. Was die Polen nun erwartet, wurde bereits in den annektierten Gebieten der Tschechoslowakei durchgeführt: Die "rassische Durchmusterung der Bevölkerung". Dazu hatte Himmler pseudowissenschaftliche 21 "Rassemerkmale" festgelegt.
Neben Alter, Größe, Körpergewicht, Haar- und Augenfarbe wurden auch Körperbau, Hautfarbe, Hinterhaupt, etc. erfasst, um zu bestimmen, ob jemand dem "germanischen Volk" zugeordnet werden kann.

I began my climate activism 35 years ago:
- Decided to not have children
- Became a vegetarian
- Cut my use of the automobile, switched to cycling
- Started organizing in my community to build local infrastructure to help others take similar direction action
- Committed to no air travel
- Commited to a low consumption life
Most Americans will quit before they even try because they don't want to be bothered. They'll say it has to be systemic change via legislation but won't bother to lobby "their" representatives nor will they protest. They'll put a lot of effort into making excuses for why they can't do anything and why they shouldn't bother because it's the wealthy and the "corporations" that are the real problem. They'll refuse to acknowledge that they themselves are a part of the wealthiest 10% of the global population and consume far, far beyond their fair share of resources. Again, they'll wag their fingers at the wealthiest 1%.
