There’s a great Tim Curry reading of Journey to the Center of the Earth; unfortunately it’s only on Audible.

I misplaced one of y'all. I've been wanting to check in, but I can't remember your username. I've been looking for you to reappear in my feed, as I'll recognize you when I see you... but you haven't shown up. I hope you see this and know it's about you.
MCR still got it
Tokyo's key inflation gauge accelerated for a third month even as the government took steps to reduce energy costs, bolstering the case for another Bank of Japan interest-rate increase. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2026/08/28/economy/tokyo-cpi-august/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #business #economy #inflation #japaneseeconomy #energy #middleeast #boj #economicindicators #internalaffairsministry
@jpm ok so the CH224 overrides any PD triggers along the chain to get what it wants. If I chuck dumb 5V in, it will put 5V out but the PG LED pin will go silent. Unfortunately I don’t have a charger on me right now that does protocols other than the full 65W suite (ie 9/12*/15/20) so I can’t tell you much more than that for now.
@ThermiteBeGiants yep I figured dumb* 5V would end up with 5V because there’s always voltage on VBUS
It's kind of odd to think about how for Euclid, Pythagoras was kind of a folk story. A guy with a possibly math themed mystery cult. He lived 270 years before Euclid. Kind of like a George Washington? With stories about chopping down cherry trees that might not be true.
The theorem that's named for Pythagoras is even older. A *lot* older. Even to Pythagoras and Euclid Egypt was "ancient" and that's why there is a story that Pythagoras went there to study 'the ancient mysteries.'

They are back and as good as ever. The comedy writing is so strong.
I revisited one of the first pieces of art I ever attempted, but now in a new medium, and with five years of improved skills and knowledge. This is my latest and greatest incarnation of a white-breasted nuthatch in #watercolor. I hope you enjoy it!
I'm beginning to offer commissions for animal, portrait, and pet portrait watercolors. I'll have a page available for that sometime soon, but you can DM me if you have interest!
Did you know you can control your browser by drawing shapes with your mouse? 🖱️
Mouse gestures let you open new tabs, reopen closed tabs, open links in background tabs, reload pages, rewind your history and more, all without reaching for the keyboard or clicking through menus. Have you tried it before?
@Vivaldi I used to use them all the time when I used a mouse primarily. I found that they don't translate well to modern trackpads, but I'm glad they still exist for the infrequent times when I am using a mouse.
I could describe the ergonomics as:
- very useful when using a mouse because one hand is definitely off the keyboard
- less useful for a laptop trackpad because two hands are required, and the hands are presumably near the keyboard; a chorded key command is faster and easier.
Climate change is a moral catastrophe because countries like Nepal who are least responsible for causing it suffer the most.
@luckytran oof, this is the stuff of nightmares. Important to bear witness all the same. 💔
@jpm hold on I have a PD trigger USB analyser and a CH224 here, lemme do some science

wtf is this?
I haven’t been to the RMIT TAFE library (building 94) in 20 years and back then it ruled because they had G4 PowerMacs with unlimited access to AARNET’s fat gigabit pipe. Today I’m back and they have monitors, keyboards and mice to dock your laptop with! This is fucken sick
every single student around me has either claude, gemini or chagpt running side by side with whatever task it is they're doing (someone's got a CAD thing going, someone else is going hard in VS Code, another guy is watching YouTube, but still has ChatGPT on his laptop screen)
Picture 1: Nazi Germany, 1938. The Nazi party is assembled in Berlin and using their slogan "One people. One realm. One leader", contradicting the fact that Germany had Jewish, Polish, Danish and other minorities.
Picture 2: Trump's America, 2026. Trump's Department of labor uses the slogan "One Homeland. One People. One Heritage", contradicting the fact that the US has large Hispanic, African, Asian, Native American, and other minorities.
@randahl this is both very concerning and utter unsurprising.
the far right ideology and imagery are being used to keep 'we, the people' separated and feeling isolated and hopeless. it's a power grab and it's happening all over the world. far-right parties globally are slowly taking hold because 'traditional' government is being undermined by the broligarchy and big E-Corps. the average voter is disenchanted and thinking selfishly that the populist speeches will help deliver an answer.
it sucks!
