@datagreier I love that we chatted for a decent amount of time before you went "Are you... on the fediverse?" 😆
Dear friends,
Please gather around for a long post about #WSocial and how they are responding to critiques.
I have noticed a trend: W Social leaders and staunch supporters are describing any critical posts about the company as "targeted disinformation." Its CEO said they will soon have a technical solution in place for this. Oh?!?

I suppose the "targeted disinformation" claims are about recent posts by the likes of me and @pallenberg about troubling hate speech that is allowed on W Social.
Claims backed by hard evidence, in the form of screenshots and video captures. (I am increasingly doing screen recordings of problematic posts and interactions by W Social people because they have a tendency to delete evidence - like an infamous comment on a video by the Instutute for Remigration).
⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️
Discrediting sources, renaming evidence as "disinformation" and creating a victim narrative has a long, storied history.
⬆️ ⬆️ ⬆️
But I'm digressing. I speak up about W Social because:
Mainstream media runs PR fluff about them;
Horrid hate speech on the platform is completely unmoderated.
W Social is currently showing the limits of free speech absolutism. Its CEO wrote: "We don’t need W to become another echo chamber."
Reminds you of something?
Atmosphere user @echna.bsky.social astutely remarked that "W Social is on an X speedrun, without ever having been like Twitter."

Bluesky, #Blacksky, and #Northsky have mechanisms in place to report hate speech - and I am super thankful for that.
As of today, I cannot report to W Social posts by their users that contain hate speech.
The W Social moderation list's only purpose is to make a distinction between verified users and bots.
Compare it with Blacksky's moderation list and be amazed (see screenshots).
What's the big deal about the lack of content moderation on #WSocial?
Well, I am haunted by some posts by their users.
A repeat offender (routinely posting racist and xenophobic posts) recently commented "Awesome news" to a newspaper article about a Palestinian family drowning in Sussex.
His profile is still up and he's followed by W Social's CEO and its co-founder Ingmar Renzhog (yes I have evidence of this, via a video capture - so even if they unfollow him or delete his account, well, I have proof of my claim).
I agree with "Echna" that W Social is on an X speedrun, allowing racist, transphobic and xenophobic posts. Evidence:

Instead of addressing these critiques head-on - and moderating hate speech - the W Social co-founders are lamenting being subjected to a "targeted disinformation" campaign.
Oh ok?
IMHO free speech absolutism ultimately only coddles far right extremists and is a very dangerous thing.
Would you call this disinformation?
Special thanks to my #GoToSocial account for allowing this message all in one go, without having to break it up in a hundred-post thread.
TL;DR: W Social is taking a dark turn real fast.
Due to ongoing disappointment with how infosec.exchange moderates racism (or doesn't, as the case may be), and a conversation with one of their moderators which very much left us disillusioned as to their capacity for taking racism seriously, we will be blocking that instance from mastodon.art in two weeks.
@tante I'd charge 7.000 Bucks. It's Harvard, for Singularity's sake!
@guenterhack well you are a lot smarter than I am and it shows

As Roy Lilley (NHSManegers.net) rightly points out, the real solution to the NHS crisis is better preventative care:
'The best care is the care that means, eventually, no care is needed at all.
The question is not; 'where else can we put the patient?'
It is; 'what are we prepared to spend to stop them becoming one?'
Otherwise we'll simply become better and better…
… at doing the wrong things, righter'....
Public health & prevention are what we need to be investing more in!
@georgepenney I was sitting by the Big Lake (Golem Ezo) in Pelister (North Macedonia) trying to photograph some swifts on the lake and I felt something breathing over my shoulder: one of the five horses hanging out there.
This horse was quite interested in stealing food. Not as subtle as a weka though.
They wanted to make Free Software illegal and have all computers approved by the government.
I am apparently NOT allowed under ANY circumstances to buy a drinks globe despite always wanting one.
@TheBreadmonkey Says who? 🤨
Harvard is now selling a 700 USD course taught by LLMs trained on their facultiy.

(I don't know what's worse: Harvard's open disdain for education and standards or the suckers who pay 700 bucks for it.)
@tante I'd charge 7.000 Bucks. It's Harvard, for Singularity's sake!
Good morning Fediversistas! We walk out into a shining world, the sun rising over the valley and lighting every dewdrops it touches, turning dew to jewels, diamond lights across the vale; we are grateful for the precious sight, and for the new day, and we walk on
Notre proposition de conférence et de stand ont été retenues à @capitoledulibre@framapiaf.org ! Rendez-vous donc les 14 et 15 novembre à Toulouse ! 🥰
Tonight, by chance, I met @aron / @datagreier from THE FEDIVERSE and it was lovely to bump into him and his partner in real life and meet a digital person but 'in the flesh', as they say.

vg piece from Peter. I would add that Westminster remains shockingly naïve about the conception of the pot of gold at the end of the technology rainbow, and could just be a bit more sensible about it.

"To call for a future in which “AI” demands “unlearning” is to unmoor everyone from time and place and body -- who we were, who we are, who we can become. To embrace its version of “unlearning” is to surrender all learning (all agency, all accountability) -- about yourself and the world to someone else’s algorithm. The constant “unlearning” that “AI” demands is actually the foreclosure of any future where learning is possible at all."

@tante the first thing that comes to my mind when reading "AI" people now talk of unlearning, is that they aspire to live in some sort of infant in an adult body state.
The bright, early morning sunlight catching the #spiderwebs and midges along the lake makes for some simultaneously eerie and magical late summer tableaux.
