The dot-com bubble funded the entry of millions of humanities undergrads and misfits into the tech sector, subsidizing their instruc- tion in HTML, JavaScript, Perl, and Python, and all that expertise hung around after the bub- ble popped. It's where we got the best of Web 2.0, as people from nontechnical backgrounds brought a radically different perspective to the project of online service design.
