I’m feeling an urgent need to make an escape-from-the-UK plan in the increasingly likely event that the far right gains power in the next few years. The most upsetting thing is that the same people stripped me of my rights to do so with #Brexit. Now the only people that can easily emigrate are the very wealthy.

This is why I will never ever stop being furious about Brexit. I never lose sight of what I personally lost on that day.

Just 9,000 years ago Britain was connected to continental Europe by an area of land called Doggerland, which is now submerged beneath the southern North Sea. Part of the reason why the UK is a world leader in off-shore windfarms.

(by @historyinmemes)

A map illustrating the changing landscape of the North Sea region over time, specifically focusing on Doggerland, a now-submerged landmass that connected Great Britain to mainland Europe. The map shows the ice sheet coverage at different points in time (16,000 BC, 8000 BC, 7000 BC), revealing how the landmass gradually became submerged as sea levels rose.

Respect for the rule of law is a must for all EU funding.

The proposed future EU budget makes that commitment steadfast.

That is why we are proposing:
✅ Robust safeguards to ensure respect for the rule of law and fundamental rights
✅ Strong incentives to uphold the rule of law and support civil society
✅ Clear conditionalities – breaches must be addressed, or payments can be suspended

Our shared values are essential for Europe’s democracy, security and economic stability.

@EUCommission as in “Animal Farm”? What about the #UK before #Brexit? What about #Hungary taking the money, supporting #Russia?

If "Brexit" happened in other countries, what would they call it? :))

A humorous map of Europe showing potential punny names for different EU countries leaving the union, inspired by 'Brexit'. Examples include 'Swexit' and 'Finish' for Nordic countries, 'Deutschleave' for Germany, 'Quitaly' for Italy, 'Fruckoff' and 'Oui out' for France, and 'Nullgaria' for Bulgaria. The map shows EU member states in yellow with their suggested exit names, while non-EU countries are shown in grey. Created by bezzleford.

The Online Safety Act is a Brexit, a warning to the rest of the World. Once again the UK has done a monstrously stupid thing and is now suffering because of it. Labour or Tory, I cannot tell the difference.

#OnlineSafetyAct#OSA#Brexit#UKPOL#UKPolitics

What makes this particularly tragic is that there were genuine alternatives. Real child safety measures—
better funding for mental health support, improved education programs, stronger privacy protections that
don’t require mass surveillance—were all on the table. Instead, the UK chose the path that maximizes
‘government control while minimizing actual safety.

The rest of the world should take note.

With an unmatched spike in public debt, 1.2 million extra people on sickness benefits and a record postwar tax burden, Britain’s economy is still suffering from "long COVID-19." https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2025/08/04/economy/long-covid-uk-economy/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #business #economy #uk#covid19 #europe #globaleconomy

@thejapantimes so many BAD DECISIONS taken by inept #british politicians. #Covid and #brexit caused huge and lasting damage. But Brexit was a lie, encouraged by #Farage, and needs to be corrected. The #tories should be barred from holding power for a very long time.
