Goooooood morning!
Definitely an antihistamine day. Goodness. My nose is making such statements.
Have a lovely day ❤️
I sneezed a lot yesterday, even though I don't think that the pollen was too high (and I was in a city, rather than at home in the countryside).
Hope you have a good day!

the Ellisons’ #Oracle mafia are behind
- the killing of CBS tv and radio
- the #Paramount - #WarnerBrothers merger
- more than 30,000 laid-off tech workers since 2025
- the #Stargate capitalist welfare grift that includes #NVidia #OpenAI #Softbank
- the herpes-like spread of ecocidal data centers
if you’ve been waiting for a sign of the #AI implosion, this is the official beginning.
Oracle has its tentacles are all over the #aislop push. now their stock is junk.
@phoenix @boterbloem @konsensor @truls46 Vielen Dank für den Tip! Das funktioniert super 👍
@klappspatack @boterbloem @konsensor @truls46 Super, dann hab' viel Spaß damit 🙂
🚆 Neu auf Lage.Bonn: Bahn-Wetter ⛅

@Fischblog Jetzt nicht mehr. xD
I don't quite understand why some people default to UUIDs as Primary Keys in Postgres. There are some situations where that makes sense, like database or service distribution/decentralization but there are significant performance drawbacks.
If you only have one primary database, bigint PKs are much more efficient and simpler to reason about. I guess even in a local sharded setup.
If you need a non-guessable public ID, just add a UUID column.
@hukl I’m not a fan of UUIDs b/c all their representations feel clunky, and they provide a false sense of safety (eg client generated IDs). OTOH, the memory issue should be negligible for most, smaller use cases.
Some time ago, I’ve built a system using a single integer id sequence. Which was fine for the insert load, but setting this up was a bit of a pita and goes against the ideas of newer identity columns 🤷♂️
But, system ubique IDs saved me more than once.
Why can’t we have nice things

I think you just reinvented Nostr;
> a fully p2p social networking propagation protocol is both achievable, and the ultimate goal here
Maybe it is, but I suspect not. A lot of projects have tried and failed (eg SSB) and pivoted to hybrids like Nostr;
@strypey Cheers! Thanks for pointing it out Nostr (I'm far from a domain expert and have a billion blind spots)… I *did* check out Nostr when looking for existing solutions or tools I could build on top.
tl;dr: the biggest difference is the notion of (implied) social graph. Nostr has no such notion, making it a nice tool for e2ee group chats, but not the kind of micro-social-network I am interested in…
Couldn't see a way to piggyback, but did reuse many concepts.
"Link in bio" for writers is usually a mess of random URLs.
Kerouac syncs everything you've ever shipped on Substack, Ghost, & Medium into one clean profile.
One URL. Put it in every bio. Let people find your work without a scavenger hunt.

The US state department is now offering grants of up to $3 million to MAGA-alligned groops in Europe, writes FT.
So let me get this straight…
Putin wages a war in Europe. That forces Europe to buy weapons from the US. Trump ads a 10 percent markup on those weapons to fill his coffers. He then spends money on advancing groups in Europe that are pro Putin. In short: The US is actively fighting against the democratic world by pushing the Putin agenda in countries fighting the Putin agenda.
@randahl More war between Russia and Europe means more profit for his family, getting rich on military contracts he affords them. 🤔
When I was a kid, “You berk” was a common mild rebuke.
Yesterday, I learned it’s not so mild
@urlyman Rhyming slang, that is.
If you watch Only Fools and Horse, Rodney uses 'berk' pronounced 'bark' quite a bit.

I have some friends in San Francisco with refugee papers who are so thankful that they got to get out of the wars they were in. Things are getting harder, not easier. If the U.S. doesn’t work out for them they don’t have anywhere else to go, really.
(And the administration is pulling a lot of legal moves to make life much much harder for refugees and asylum folks)
The degree of cruelty imposed by just about anyone working on any immigration policy anywhere today is horrific. Not surprising, because immigrants are always the first to be treated like shit, but horrific. I think we are led by cruel people all around.
