Apparently a practice centering on sel-centerdness has some potential issues.
I was trained in psychology, I am familiar with the lineage of developing measurement instruments named "Gary's Perfect Intelligence Metric" and the test is just rotating a bunch of plus signs. I live in the united States and am aware of bills named "The Great Infinite Jello Glitch" that legalizes stripmining in orphanages. So naturally I love AI company press releases.

I’m struggling to think of many examples of where I see a group of people in balaclavas and think “Ooh, I bet they’re nice”.
Fakt!

I see a lot of timid responses to 1Password funding the Neo-Nazi DHH and his fascist collaborators:
"I threatened to cancel my 1Password subscription and will happily give them my money again when they come back to their senses."
Please, don't be so naive.
- First of all, 1Password is largely owned by Shopify executives who are all friends of DHH. DHH is a director at Shopify.
- Second, the VP of 1Password is using Nazi dogwhistles and also fully on DHH's side.
@flyingpenguin is a historian of (Nazi) German history. Read his article.
Friedrich Nietzsche had this idea of a "will to power". His Nazi sister turned that into Nazi propaganda after Friedrich's death.
DHH wrote a blog post containing "will to power" in its title.
It's no accident that the VP of 1Password used the words "force of will". It's a dogwhistle.
Don't be naive, folks.
Cancel 1Password, give them the finger, and tell them to go to hell. They are Neo-Nazis.
Don't tell them you'll return as a customer once they found their way again.
@Darkedge ooh I will! That would be cool :)

Postgres depends on SysV IPC for synchronisation. The OCI spec says that this should be enabled by default and scoped to the jail for FreeBSD containers, but it isn’t yet in ocijail and you need to tweak the docker compose thing to enable it.
Note: I am not sure if this is easy with a Linux container because the key that controls this might be scoped for FreeBSD, but hopefully Podman just passes it to ocijail. If it doesn’t work, there’s an open issue about this on the ocijail repo that has a work around using a jail creation hook thingy.
If you don’t mind me bragging a little bit— I think Luka and I are absolutely killing it over at @parakeet lately. I’m so proud of us, and thankful that our clients let us make such nice icons for them!

I don't mean to brag, but I apparently absolutely annihilated the human land-speed record at #ParkRun this morning. Seriously - obliterated it. It felt slow but I must have been rocketing along.
@TheBreadmonkey
Nice! 🥳
Though, are you training to become a spider. as your web building technique is a little off.

And next Saturday at @berlinfediday I will share Fediverse stories from last year that inspired me…. Giving a big shout out to @stefano and his projects #FediMeteo and #LittleFedi.
@_elena @berlinfediday thank you!
I'm sure your presentation will be great! Will it be streamed and recorded?
*sigh* The internet has ruined me.

How does the FOSS bro to AI bro pipeline work even though LLMs are the biggest and most inefficient black boxes compared to traditional proprietary software? This is my guess.
For many people software freedom was never about liberation but only about control. LLMs provide an interface that takes any input and does what they think they want, giving them the ultimate feeling of control.
This is something they can micromanage the shit out of, which they usually cannot get away with when collaborating with humans.
Combine that with a high dose of privilege and they can justify using "just a tool" "responsibly" while supporting technofascism and accelerating climate collapse.

he fed the chatbots river crossing puzzles, they failed hard, the specific puzzles showed up specifically trained a bit later but slight variants still broke

@davidgerard LLMs can’t do anything that involves keeping track of several entities in spatial, temporal and/or causal relation to each other, unless you train stories about specific cases into them.
This is not surprising, of course, when you don’t expect them to have reasoning capability in the first place but must be very frustrating for AI bros who believe in these things as a religion.
Training AI models on copyrighted works is "squarely what transformative use is," EFF’s Tori Noble told Reason - these are "general purpose tools" and "exactly the kind of creation that copyright is designed to foster.” https://reason.com/2026/09/04/doj-says-barring-ai-training-on-copyrighted-material-could-severely-hamper-tech-progress/
@eff Who bribed you, and how much did they pay?
If you are based in #MelbourneNaarm or #Australia, please consider buying books from Amplify Bookstore. They've had to turn off socials due to harassment and are getting trouble in-person as well. They have a store in North Melbourne (near Queen Vic Markets), and online, and stock an range of diverse authors. https://amplifybookstore.com/
