Kehitysvammaliiton toiminta uhkaa loppua hallituksen STEA-rahoitusleikkausten vuoksi.

#WestPoint’s only #climate #scientist fired after continuing to teach human causes of #climatechange
According to #AdamKalkstein, who taught #army cadets there for 17 years, he told the dean at a November 2025 meeting that an order to cut from the curriculum content about the human causes of climate change was immoral and potentially illegal.
It “would be like trying to teach the law without being able to even mention the constitution”, he said.

reading articles on "budget gpus" and seeing that the recs are $600. burst out laughing over that one
@platinumtulip I love living in a historical pricing crisis
Thx for the quality drama, as always, archive, clone and screenshot everything before he nukes the whole repo.
I couldn't figure out this bug, so I asked Fable, and it was SO much more incredible than I expected.
- My bug report was wrong in a way I didn't notice
- There technically was no bug, but a flawed design caused unintended outcomes
- It verified that the design almost certainly caused me to fall into that trap, and proposed a simple, effective fix
Wow.
@marcoarment would other cheaper models of Claude (Opus for example) be able to do the same or only Fable can achieve that level of quality?
New blogpost:
# Time to drop .legal?
Just my ponderings at this point.
Perhaps I am over-worrying?
@neil fwiw, the "unconventional" TLDs are strong negative signals in a lot of areas, although .legal seems to be less troublesome than most.
While I *do* own a (super cheap) .xyz, anything I care about is on a "traditional" TLD

I wonder sometimes what it would be like to meet someone from 200 years ago. 300. 400. We wouldn't even recognise each other as the same species.
@TheBreadmonkey I barely recognise my kids as the same species.
I keep seeing the same lifecycle over and over again.
Phase one: We’re revolutionaries. We’re different. We have principles. We have an idea.
Phase two: We just need to change a couple of tiny things... you understand, we do need to make some money.
Phase three: Psst... let’s quietly change this too. No need to announce it. They trust us.
Phase four: Let’s add a little of whatever the current trend is. Just enough to get more attention. Everyone else is doing it anyway.
Phase five: Hey, this monetisation thing actually works. And now that we’re here, we could monetise a little more. It would be silly not to.
Phase six: Listen, my dear little insignificant user. I know what’s best for you. Give me your money, your data, your freedom, and please stop looking around.
You don’t need alternatives.
You have me.
You’re mine.
@stefano bsd.cafe is phase 4 now? 😂😂😂
@cwebber I get that you care about using computing to improve the world, and am going to assume that you care about making people/programs safe, and that you want to joke about the tension between what computing is used for and what it isn’t. But you can’t be oblivious to how such posts are received and how the “only snark allowed, don’t you dare openly say you believe computers/ai/networks/iot can be used to improve things, or we’ll come down on you and label you an idiot” sentiment is so widespread on mastodon.
People who write manifestos about bullying legit calling me brain rotten, people with meta and google on their resume calling me a techbro, a sucker because I said I care about improving things with technology, without trying to engage with my post charitably, it’s omnipresent here.
@mnl I don't believe only snark is allowed! I never took such a position or advocated for such a thing, nor do I believe it?
The post, which I made, was meant to be something to be reflected upon. It's clearly not correct, so *why isn't* it correct? (Well, in a sense, it is correct, it's just not that it's *useful advice*, just as it isn't in sex ed.) And what is left in the negative space, if it isn't?
But your original post took it in a literal way, and I'm sure if you do know about my work, which you seem to, you know that what you're asserting isn't what I think.
Graphene migration complete! Nearly painless. Biggest issues were self-inflicted by avoiding Google Play like the Google Plague, but by using the Aurora Store and some dev options, I was even able to get Android Auto working.
And Gemini is nowhere to be found. Huge success.

Gonna start reading that GH thread with the voices of different Watchmen characters.

Any day now little one…
@pluralistic A more general observation: over a generation ago, the US banks deskilled branch employees, and disempowered branch managers, centralizing authority in bureaucracies normal customers can reach only through opaque escalation paths (speaking as a customer, not an insider).
The branch manager who slammed down the phone had no idea how to get the piece of information you needed.
help me #digipres community you're my only hope
there's a cute facetious little poem about preservation, I believe from a short chapbook-or-similar
does ANYBODY remember the book or author? the poem starts off
Clay tablets were heavy and tended to shatter
Papyrus crumbled, but at least it was flatter
and it ends
Magnetic disks are erased in a trice
Something that lasts, really lasts, would be nice
