#Introduction:
My name is Robbie Norlyn! I’m a published author who primarily writes science fiction and fantasy for sale to the public. Anything else I have written, about a wide array of topics, is academic, private, or public domain.
I have had a wide variety of occupations over the years. I’m an #artist, #engineer, #scientist, and #technologist by way of experience and training.
My #AlmaMater is the #UniversityofWashington. Where I completed a #BA in #Philosophy. More specifically the school of #AnalyticPhilosophy with a strong focus on #science. However, I have a vast knowledge of #ethics and #theology due to my environment as a youth.
Why #Babka?
I’m #Jewish by descent (both sides, #Ashkenazi & #Sephardic) and am becoming more spiritual as I get older. I was raised in a #Secular/#CryptoJew environment. I grew up with Jewish memes & traditions without understanding any of their importance. Dreidels, Fiddler on the Roof, Passover, and Shel Silverstein are burned into my memories.

MY NEW BOOK is out! 🎉📘

"How to Survive (and Thrive) in Research" is now published. It distills over 20 years (yes… that many!) of lessons, mistakes, and the occasional success into something practical and (I hope) entertaining for anyone beginning their research journey.

Across more than 150 pieces of advice, I share the unspoken (and, you know me, someetimes slightly controversial) truths every junior researcher should know to save countless hours of frustration, help navigate academic life , and make the research path more understandable and manageable.

And I’m proud to say I’ve already sold my first copy… to my mom ❤️ (always the early adopter).

If you want to get your own copy:
📘 Amazon: https://lnkd.in/e6TG2Wpw

For updates, complementary material, and additional resources:
🌐 Book website: https://research-rants.com

If you know PhD students, postdocs, or early-career researchers, I’d truly appreciate if you could share this post or pass the link along. 🙏
Excited (and relieved!) to finally share this with the community.

#Scientist #MaleScientist

TIL The term “scientist” was coined in the 1830s
to describe Mary Somerville. A woman. Because
the usual term “man of science” didn’t apply and
she wasn’t just a physicist, geologist, or chemist -
she was all three.

I will now be referring to all men who do science
as male scientists. All scientists are female unless
indicated otherwise

University of New Mexico #scientist is revealing what might be one of the most overlooked causes of #dementia — damage in the #brain tiny #bloodvessels. Dr. Elaine Bearer has created a new way to classify these changes, showing that many people diagnosed with #Alzheimers also suffer from #vascular damage that quietly destroys #brain tissue. Scientists are moving from Twitter/X to Bluesky, drawn by its simpler design and less aggressive algorithms. 🧬

Still, Mastodon offers stronger privacy and open-source values, making it a better alternative for many. 🔒

Why not choose Mastodon? 🤔
Healthy, respectful science communication needs better social platforms. 🌐
