Every time I see the guillotine mentioned as a tool that might come in handy again I'm reminded that… you guessed it… its actual history is a bit embellished. It solved one problem: efficient, uniform judicial killing, so noblemen (only ~15%) no longer got the sword while peasants the wheel.
Not-so-fun fact: France used it until 1977. It remained a legal option until 1981.
It really isn't a good symbol once you know that under Hitler some 16'000 people were guillotined - including Sophie Scholl.

@gkrnours that protects it at rest, not when it's being actively used. if you are going to be signing any messages with that key, you are necessarily putting it at risk of theft somehow. i think that part is actually unavoidable

This has come up a lot recently. I see devs fiddling with their Git commits - selectively staging files, stashing etc to get the commit they want.
My instinct has always been - when I find myself looking at unstaged files and thinking "That shouldn't be in there" - to go to the .gitignore file and fix the problem there.
Code works as a whole. Cherry-picking is how our local config can easily drift from the repo's.

Not that I've never been surprised, or added a file to .gitignore. That does happen, cuz modern build environments are complicated.
But if there are actual source files in a git status that I don't know why they're there, it's cuz my step is too big, and I git reset --hard.
An inevitable step in any graphics engine development: rendering Sponza. Doesn't look particularly great yet without proper shadows or indirect lighting, but at least the direct lighting looks okay.
I think I'll look into shadow mapping next. It would be nice to use hardware ray tracing for shadows and reflections, but Vulkan/MoltenVK does not yet support it on macOS. Oh well, this is a learning project anyways, so it's good to practice different techniques.
So much for 'three hours of free power a day' in Australia.
