Ma quanto è bella questa frase?

Vero?
Lo stesso concetto lo espresse A. Zichichi in un confronto con M. Hack, la quale non poté che dichiararsi d'accordo.

I've seen a lot of talk about "generating #PassiveIncome ". To some degree, this is understandable - we all live in a late-stage Capitalist hellhole, which means that we must always live in fear of bankruptcy unless we are so rich that we can outsource all our risks to other people. Thus, extra income streams which we don't have to do much work is very, very appealing.
But ultimately, the real trick to getting passive income... is to have money to start with, which can then be invested in order to pay you dividends or all the other stuff the rentier class gets income from.
And if you _don't_ have that money for investment, you will not have those opportunities for passive income, and be _deeply_ suspicious of anyone who tells you otherwise - because they are trying to sell you "self-help courses" and the like which will not help you one bit.
As an example, some years ago - before the #AI / #LLM hype even broke loose - I saw people on Twitter flogging "writing books in order to generate passive income". And while I, as a published author, can confirm that there is indeed _some_ money to be earned by writing, there is nothing "passive" about it.. You have to write the book, you have to proofread it, you have to get others to read it and give you feedback, you have to go through the publishing process... and once you are done you will have to do it all over again, because the best advertising for a book is _another_ book.
Now, there is nothing wrong with contemplating some new money-making opportunities - again, we live in a late-stage Capitalist hellhole, and we need the money to survive. But be clear-eyed about the efforts involved versus the rewards you get, and don't trust people who try to sell you get-rich-quick schemes.
I do recall many years ago, Joe Haldeman saying that making a living as an SF writer was more about what you had written then what you were writing. Old novels getting reprinted, short stories getting anthologized, etc. Small individually, but they add up.
On the other hand, he spent a lot of his life with a day job, teaching English at MIT, I believe.

@thomasfuchs I was guessing a little earlier, but that does make sense
@bitsavers “great”, another one of those channels
YouTube needs a “block channel” feature so bad.
@thomasfuchs @bitsavers I'm a YT Premium subscriber so I don't know if that gives me special options, but pretty sure I can just block channels. I have blocked this one.
I’ve said this before and will say it again. If you think social media is so toxic that it damages 16-year-olds then it damages everyone. You don’t magically become immune on your 17th birthday. Either ban it for everyone or not at all.
In quale universo? Dài, atteniamoci ai fatti e non ai pregiudizi
@jepyang yes I'm really not sure how I feel about it, but have provisionally settled on "yay developing enzymes that can break down plastics, boo feeding the resultant deeply unappetising sounding products to people"
@afewbugs wild that that is the first place they went with it! not even like, this can fertilize plants or we can feed this to cows or whatever, they just jump right to “soylent grey”
How the fuck has this even been sanctioned in the first place?
"The concern is not simply that AI can make mistakes. Generative AI can produce statements that sound plausible but are false. It’s a problem that becomes much more serious when those statements can influence an investigation or form part of a case presented in court."

The program I am using to write the TeX port has a spell check system, which doesn't recognize some words I've used and spelled my whole life. Words like "amidst".

Two years ago, a group of older men told me that “everything on the history of women in science has already been published” 🙃🤦♀️
Two papers on Rosalind Franklin is “research completed”…
But there’s no problem producing the 1000th paper on Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein…
Written partly out of spite, but mostly out of passion for making women’s stories visible, this is my new paper on the early history of women in Australian #scicomm.
@robin I guess it depends on the country but here in the Netherlands, people over 70 and those in high risk groups will get an invitation to get vaccinated for COVID from September 21st onwards this year, which is very close to the previous 2 or 3 years where I received the invitation mid-late September
@Timo_Micro Deeply reasonable, thank you for the data point! September 21 seems to be a date that's coming up here too 🤩

#Emacs tip of the day: maybe you know the rx macro, that allows to create a regex with s-expression. Well, if you need the reverse (regexp -> s-expression) to modify a heavy regex (looking at you tramp-password-prompt-regex), there is an xr package to do so!

I didn't have any followers when I started @pixelfed.
I didn't even use Instagram that much.
What inspired me was the chance to build a better home for photographers, hobbyists and professionals alike, because IG kept getting worse.
Never expected my first real open source project to go viral, but I'm glad it did.
Together we proved you don't need a corporation to build a social platform.
1M+ people later, we're really just getting started 🚀
