🚨 Preliminary daily data shows we just broke the all-time highest global sea surface temperature in this record...

It's been a tough few years for MacStories.
An explanation of why we resumed posting on X, and what comes next:
@viticci What rubbish. Posting to the Nazi bar for clicks for your AI grift is inexcusable. Hope it was worth burning any goodwill you had here.
The label said 'time machine'.
"Does it work?"
"Bah," professor Contretemps said. "It sends a message into the future, where it is reflected back, and receives it instantly."
"Wow!"
"Useless. You just see what you write."
"Does the sender and receiver have to be in the same place?"
"No. Why?"

Oh wow, CourtWatch has a REALLY GOOD post up and unpaywalled about a federal case involving tech support scams targeting seniors.
Highly recommended to read and pass to your peers as well as your aging loved ones.

cheers to @timnitGebru for finding (EDIT: publicising!) the smoking gun on TESCREAL->Cofnas
@davidgerard @timnitGebru Why am I totally not surprised to see nazis promoted a witch hunt targeting a notable black academic. It's almost like there was gambling happening in this here casino …
🌾 Climate change is becoming a food security crisis. Heatwaves and drought are damaging crops across Europe, reducing harvests and threatening livelihoods. When food production falls, prices rise.
🌳 We need climate-resilient food systems now: regenerative agriculture, agroforestry and food forests in gardens, parks and unused land. Food security is everyone’s responsibility. The time to prepare is before the shelves are empty. 🌍🌱
#FoodSecurity #ClimateResilience #FoodForest
Urgent action now.
What I mean when I say that the #OpenStreetMap tagging sometimes misses the realities of how shops work around here: Saw a business offering permanent hair removal and fixing truck brakes. 🤣
@gedankenstuecke May as well fill the time somehow, while waiting for the mechanics to do their thing.
There's a place near me that sells paint & related hardware down one side of the shop, and perfume & cosmetics down the other. One shop, two tills. I'll probably never ask them why, either; sometimes it's more fun not knowing.

@Em0nM4stodon this may not be the best thread for this, but here goes:
I am a programmer professionally. Through close collaboration I daily build custom apps, tools, automations for my colleagues to help them do their work more easily and faster.
I am a firm believer in privacy as a human right and try to make - and help my friends and family make - choices by that base line (Signal over WhatsApp, Mastodon over Twitter/FB, LibreOffice over MSoffice, Linux over windows etc).
I would absolutely love to be able to do something like that in "the real world" - to help build better tech. I have tried finding some open source projects to contribute to, but am often overwhelmed by the onboarding for larger projects or don't have enough deep knowledge of more niche projects looking for help.
With your experience and in your opinion, what is a good place for someone like myself to start helping?

Omarchy is worse than ChromeOS and that's saying something.
It's just an Arch remix. Stuff you could do yourself on base Arch. It's also fully fucking vibecoded, many commits from Claude and Codex, etc.
Not to forget that the creator, DHH, is a right-wing fascist asshole.
Even ChromeOS wrote their own shit and made a unique distro of Linux.
You'd be better off using base Arch or you could use [at]elementary[at]mastodon.social or [at]gentoo[at]fosstodon.org. They're special, go support them.
The Chang'e 7 rover is equipped with five scientific payloads, including a panoramic camera (PC), rover magnetometer (RM), the lunar raman spectrometer (LRS), the lunar penetrating radar (LPR) and the in-situ measuring system of volatiles on the lunar surface (IsMSV).
Note the use of the simple RS422 interface between most of the instruments and the processing subsystems.
