Went for a walk along the canal yesterday, now that the summer heat is waning, and saw a surprising number of creatures.
This grumpy little soft shell turtle was doing it's best impression of a rock in the middle of the footpath along the top of the canal. I relocated them off the path, down next to the water.

You know what's worse than waiting 10 hours for power to come back?
Waiting 11 because your electricity company is that incompetent.
I agree with this argument but it is also just one of many that would explain why people might rationally be resistant to using or embracing AI.

@ohir I've never been able to figure out how his works have ever been accurately translated to English.
By far the most opulent thing I've done lately is sub. to a daily physical newspaper delivery. Every day I wake up to a paper on my doorstep.
The stories are already curated, it has the weather, a listing of local events, puzzles, comics, book reviews/rankings, sports scores/standings, and more.
It satiates that thirst for news, and no one knows what article I read or didn't, or what book I circled to read. Reading it feels luxurious and relaxing.
Easily the best thing I've done in awhile.
The ruins of a Buzludzha, a communist monument perched atop an icy mountain in Bulgaria.
I was lucky enough to visit before work began and photograph it in its abandoned state. The climb in was very dangerous; I almost gave up but was so pleased I conquered my fears!

Incredible pictures! Here are a couple of the outside. Certainly did not have your courage to actually go inside.

@notptr They launched an AI model to talk about climate data and made a blogpost about it.

Well, I guess I better start doing something useful today. Take care of corporeal self, organise plants, put flat pack shelves together, send emails.
Did you figure something out with your shoes?
@ajroach42 Wait - the Internet Archive has??
@kevin Wayback labs launched a product called ClimateGPT which is an AI model trained on Climate data.
They wrote a blog post about it and then posted about it on their fediverse account.
I'm not in a position to hunt it down right now, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Actually, an even earlier version was in an original "Twilight Zone" episode (Valley of the Shadow - 1963) where a man stumbles across a small town with highly advanced tech. One of the devices they show him is a replicator that creates objects from printed paper cards with the molecular formula encoded on them. Very much like a 3D model STL or 3MF file. Way ahead of Star Trek replicators. Oh yes, and then there's the point-to-point teleportation chambers (called "evaporators") in the 1953 WB cartoon: "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century."

I’ve been finding lately that hours listings for restaurants have been weirdly inconsistent online. I just found a restaurant that has three different sets hours listed on Apple Maps, Google Maps, and their own website.
I feel like this is somehow a trend, but I can’t figure out what would cause it. Maybe I’ve just gotten unlucky lately.
does anybeing have a 4 or 8 GB stick of DDR3 memory for laptops laying around? i have a #thinkpad T410 here but i can't really do anything with it with 4 GB of memory so i'd like to upgrade it to 8 (the maximum)

Am I correct in my understanding that both the internet archive and the EFF posted something pro AI this week?

Rabies is always fatal.
You don’t need to be bitten to contract it. It can spread through saliva.
Almost 300 people in North Carolina are being evaluated for rabies exposure after baby goats at a mobile petting zoo were confirmed to be rabid.
This zoo travelled all over the state and went to back to school events and even assisted living facilities.
Please spread the word.
If you’re in North Carolina and had contact with baby goats, seek medical attention:
