@davidgerard I used to work in the NHS, mostly doing medical transcription. Our management team decided that a department - I'm being deliberately vague - would be "trialling" digital vice recognition, the usual staff being demoted to checking it for correction. Result? The planned trial was over in a few weeks as the senior medical staff saw the results and were...not happy.
Very loudly, en masse, and repeatedly.
But I've no doubt they'll try again with the shiny new LLM nonsense.

It's quite a clever idea! Rather than having to press potentially dirty buttons in a toilet to record your feedback, you can use a gesture instead. Nifty!
Except… Here's how they describe it on their website.
> No specialist hardware. No complex setup. Just plug in a camera-enabled device and you're live.
Oh. Good. A 24/7 video stream live from the loos. What could possibly go wrong with that?

@wim_v12e @scroeser Why can't you ban AI use? It's the student's that should be writing their reports/code after all? You're not supposed to grade the output of an amorphous blob that exists half-way around the world. This is all so stupid. How did "not doing the work" become a fair improvement over "doing the work". Before this, this behavior was considered cheating and would get you relegated?!
The university policy allows use of genAI and no single department can go against it even if they wanted to (they don't even want to). As individual academic I have even less leeway. If I ban it, the students will appeal and win.
It is in practice impossible to prove that the student used genAI in a way that contravenes the university policy, except through oral examination. But with our current rules, 90% of the marks for the final year project are on the written report.

After 14,000 views, there are almost no Ukrainians seeing this very Ukraine related and very hopeful video.
Does anyone know how to get this in front of the Ukrainian audience?
Would it require Ukrainian subtitles?
@randahl maybe you send it to @zelenskyyua

Hi @aetios! We prefer not to use AI-generated visuals on our channels. The image in this post was made by our in-house graphic design team.
WE DID IT. WE WON. 💜✊
Wikimedia Foundation workers voted 158 YES to 14 NO: 91.9% of ballots cast, with 81% turnout.
We’re so proud of everyone who built this union, and this win belongs to our whole community. We could not have done it without the solidarity of Wikimedia volunteers.
This is just the beginning. We stand with our UK siblings in their recognition process now, and with future organizing efforts across WMF’s global workforce. 🌍
[union needed]
@randahl it might have to do something with the title.
I am not sure of your audience but I very rarely open videos with clickbait titles and thumbnails (like AI-generated suggestion here, only thing it misses is lightning) as they usually offer little substance and are rehash at best and ragey slop at worst.
For me your original thumbnail is looking good, standing out in the usual mess even but I'd change title to something more... informational? Something that you'd expect to see as good newspaper headline. Or at least expand it a bit.
@shuro thank you Shuro. I should perhaps note that the thumbnail does not exist on its own; it is supported by the video's textual title "Why Putin's days are numbered". So all in all, what users see on YouTube is
"Final Countdown / Why Putin's days are numbered"
