@onepict@chaos.social @jzb@hachyderm.io I think part of the problem is that LLMs really aren't a technology or tool the way we usually use those words. Some tech-minded folks want to think of them that way, but doing so obscures much of what makes them so dangerous and what motivates the need to ceaselessly resist their deployment. LLMs aren't, and can't be, "just a tool" because they are totalizing. They are, or at least aspire to be, an encompassing environment in which we are all embedded and unable to meaningfully escape. In that sense they are a political project aiming to reshape how people interact even at the level of how we think and write. A typical software application, programming language, or even operating system doesn't aspire to fully enclose the intellectual commons.

I think this is one reason why proponents can't let people have Codeberg. Any holdout, however small, is a threat to the power these things are meant to represent.

@W6KME @JBrownEsq @ai6yr Lyft (which is what I mostly use) doesn't let you specify, either. The only way to reliably avoid them (at the moment) is by ordering (at a significant premium) an SUV. But that will stop working as soon as someone comes out with an SUV with self-driving features.

@mshelton It's astonishing to me that people are bent on using a software stack that :
1 - They have no control over
2 - Ingests content from other sources illegally/immorally and obfuscates the original source.
3 - Explicitly say in the TOS you can't trust its output to be accurate.
4 - Will hack your competitors, or anyone, illegally, and you are responsible for that.
5 - You upload your own proprietary IP and secrets to, with no NDA.
