Gandi net sent out a survey. It seems they have noticed they are now ranked less than a cm above GoDaddy on everyone's scummy internet companies list - and that only because they are 'owned' by a Dutch billionaire family rather than #US corruptobros or billionaires.
Maybe everyone shifting to Hover / anything not so obviously evil has finally sunk in there is a reason Gandi was the innovator's go-to registrar. It supported bright people just starting out.
And now they do not.

Today we announce a next step in our transition to open research information: CWTS will discontinue the use of Web of Science data, both in the Leiden Ranking and in the services that we offer to external organisations.
This step aligns with our work towards open research information, notably in our focal area Information & Openness, the Open Edition of our Leiden Ranking, and the @BarcelonaDORI that we co-initiated.

#Anthropic is in the clear for training #Claude on millions of books without permission or payment. However, it's liable for obtaining many of those books illegally, and its settlement of those claims (about $3k/title) was approved by the court.
So far this decision only applies in the Northern District of California. But it breaks the ice and will (as lawyers say) be "persuasive but not binding" in other districts.
@petersuber I'm not sure I understand how it can be both fair use and pirated material at the same time. If you acquire the material and only use it in a means covered by fair use, how is that a violation of the copyright to acquire it?

I maintain my own "security checklists" I go over before launching an update or a new server component. They grow over time as I record learnings or the exposure surface increases. It's all about configuration e.g. presence of specific tests etc.
This time, I decided to try and save me some time by handing it over to Claude... and Claude said no 😂🙈. Apparently asking it do validate stuff in my own project from a list of points is "too mythos" for my tiny human brain.
