People say being a part of a generation doesn't mean anything. I beg to differ. There are clear differences between Gen X and the Millennials and the Z's.
Honestly there's a huge gap in mentality between Old Millennials and younger ones!
@phillycodehound I think a list of world-changing events that a cohort lived through at an age where they understood them would be more significant. Events like Viet Nam, the assassination of the Kennedy brothers, 911, COVID are deeper than arbitrary year choices.
Super typhoons, record-breaking heat, wildfires, and extreme rain: are we prepared to cope with extreme weather?

@greenpeace we just gotta ask AI to generate more , that surely will make everything better

Love the six-fingered thumb-down image in these stickers! https://narrativ.es/@janl/116907298750581216
Following links in the comments, I found the design (by
@VillageOneCoop) here:
It's licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, so I hope that they won't mind that I used inkscape to edit it into a "Thumb-Down-AI" image with just the six-fingered hand. I think I might find occasional uses for such an emoji, and maybe others might like it too.
@marilyn We don’t mind at all, so cool when people take the designs and run with them! 🙌
@ai6yr Fun fact: When this album was created, to capitalize on the success of "The Lonely Bull", there still actually was no "Tijuana Brass" per se. These songs were all performed by Herb and some of the super session musicians here in L.A. (See the wonderful documentary "The Wrecking Crew", which may still be available free on YouTube in the U.S.)
How to Get Rid of Sunburn Fast
are you aware of https://github.com/reticulous/reticulous ? it is a full-blown OS for the tdeck (and heltecV4) with windowed web interface, full RNS, IP stack, ssh, wireguard, LXMF _and_ nomadnet browser, etc.
it was just released (it is vibe-coded :/..) so there are lots of things to iron out, but already pretty damn impressive
@jz @fedipossible interesting! It would’ve be nice if the author had put few screenshots so we can see the interface. I don’t intend to create an “OS” with my t-deck project, but rather build a usable UI on top of the micropython-reticulum core. I was hesitating if I want to use a nice GUI framework like LVGL, but decided to go for minimalistic custom ‘hackery’ interface. In any case, the more choices - the better 😄

What listening to a white cis man who immigrated from South Africa and has watched every Ted Talk ever produced has taught me about B2B sales
The US state department is now offering grants of up to $3 million to MAGA-alligned groops in Europe, writes FT.
So let me get this straight…
Putin wages a war in Europe. That forces Europe to buy weapons from the US. Trump ads a 10 percent markup on those weapons to fill his coffers. He then spends money on advancing groups in Europe that are pro Putin. In short: The US is actively fighting against the democratic world by pushing the Putin agenda in countries fighting the Putin agenda.
Just saw a commercial for Meta Pervert Glasses and I want to remind everyone that it is totally morally correct to bust them with your fist while they're still on the face.
@billyjoebowers The idea alone is very cringe
Perspective: Telling a long-time acquaintance I'm going to Nashville, and hearing him say "Oh, I hear it's a really fun city!"
And then thinking "I imagine *you'd* have a lovely time." Thinking about how my wife is worried about my gender presentation on the construction site where I'll be working — being someone slightly fem in a very masc space like that. Being in a state with a poor track record around trans rights.
Intellectually, know I'll be fine, and I almost certainly *will* end up having a good time at some point. I'm planning to continue showing up as myself. Nashville is a big city — a dot of blue in a sea of red, similar to where I spent most of my college years. I don't anticipate any issues.
Emotionally, though, it feels wild to see a sharp disconnect that wouldn't have crossed my mind three years ago. It makes me appreciate the relative social safety for visibly queer folks where I'm living.
Anyway, stay safe out there, y'all. ✌️

NY Times: Data Centers to Add Billions in Power Costs in 13 States
A power auction conducted by a giant grid operator is expected to add $6.3 billion in additional charges to consumers and businesses because of electricity needs of data centers.
"Match Group controls roughly two-thirds of the global dating app market, concentrating vast amounts of intimate user information under a single corporate umbrella. CEO and Director of Match Group, Spencer Rascoff, previously served on the board of Palantir. Palantir specialises in data analytics and AI systems, often providing their software to be used to commit atrocities such as the mass deportations of undocumented migrants."

"Most users don’t read terms and conditions, demonstrating the need for a 'fair and reasonable' test that protects us against invasive data sharing."

It's unfair to expect citizens to read lengthy and intentionally opaque T&Cs, in full, just to make sure we're not singing away our basic rights. We need entrenched legal protection from predatory data practices.
The satirical T&C statement at the bottom of @pluralistic's web pages makes this point nicely.
Sorry, the app encountered an unexpected error
