Throughout this time, Dr. Abu Safiya, like numerous Palestinian healthcare workers, refused to abandon his patients. He stayed at the hospital until the last second when Israeli forces raided it again and arbitrarily arrested him on 27 December 2024.

Today, Dr. Abu Safiya spent over 600 days behind bars in Israeli detention. He is still being held without charge, separated from his family, his colleagues, and the children he lovingly treated.

Israeli authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and all other arbitrarily detained Palestinians.

White Pyramid

Following a valley towards Flateyjardalur in north-eastern Iceland, we stopped at some shepherds' huts to admire the view.

With the sun at its low meridian due south, the dramatic peaks surrounding the valley were breathtaking. One stood out amongst its neighbours; mist-wrapped and ice-coated, this perfect point.

The peak is Kambsmýrarhnjúkur¹ at 1,041 metres (3,415 feet) high.
