As president, he tried to nationalize major industries, expand education and improve conditions for the working class. On September 11, 1973 (the other 9/11), he was ousted in a coup by Augusto Pinochet, leading to a dictatorship that lasted until 1990. Thousands of workers, socialists, union members and activists were killed, including folk singer Victor Jara, who continued to sing, as his torturers beat him up, mashed his fingers in front of thousands of other prisoners in the Estadio Chile. He sang “Venceremos” (We Shall Win) through split lips. Before being riddled with 40 bullets, he managed to compose the song “Estadio Chile” and get it smuggled out; "How hard it is to sing when I must sing of horror. / Horror which I am living, horror which I am dying." The coup and dictatorship were supported by the CIA, and by President Nixon, and by the Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, who later won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Hi everyone. Yesterday, many #snac instances had a failure in the notifications area: accessing it was impossible. I have not much information about what the problem is, but it seems it's related to a specially crafted post that makes snac hang. If this is happening to you, and you have access to snac's disk storage, you can delete manually the files inside the notify directory of your user (they are a bunch of .json files).

Whenever I finally understand what is making snac fail, I'll publish a version that mitigates this.

I have been pondering the Debian / Linux kernel / other bits situation, re. genAI, and what I want to do.

I don't have good answers, but it struck me that some things are easier than others for me. practically speaking.

From easier to harder:

1. Not using genAI myself. Very easy.

2. Where I am involved in projects, pushing back on use of genAI / encouraging policies which reject genAI.

3. Not using software which surfaces genAI functionality (i.e. finding an alternative to calibre, rather than just not using calibre's genAI functionality).

4. Not using software which I know was / was likely to have been coded using genAI (e.g. finding an alternative kernel etc.)

5. Not using software which was coded using genAI, where this is undeclared.
