Success 🙂 BepiColombo’s transfer propulsion module has separated from the two science spacecraft, another major step in this mission to study Mercury.
This was confirmed by a change in the doppler shift of the signal coming from Bepi as its trajectory changed slightly.
Lots of smiles & clapping here at ESOC 👍
But this isn’t over yet – it’ll be a while, 90 minutes or longer, before we hear again from the main science spacecraft, when it has rebooted & reoriented, then sends signals home.
Citizen Lab (in collab with SHARE) release report on Serbian student protest movement activist hit with a zero-click Pegasus infection, targeting iOS.
ICYMI Pegasus is an esp. evil flavour of mercenary spyware, allowing "an attacker to do anything that a user can do, ranging from accessing private data like notes, pictures and even encrypted messages [...] to covertly enable the phone’s microphone and camera."
It's made by NSO Group, Israel. We can guess their client.

As a person trying hard to be a decent human being, I want software projects that reject fascism so that we can build a better world.

@ajroach42 "that anyone charging for a piece of software must be punished", I've seen people accuse the free software movement of this, but I never saw that idea being promoted by the free software movement. On the contrary the idea is that one gets paid for writing code (instead of receiving money over and over for the same code).
The majority (95%) of the software written has only a single purpose and user why such model works for most programmers.
@jschwart It certainly wasn't promoted from within the developer core (most devs want to get paid) but many of the most enthusiastic free software evangelists (at least, when I was coming up in the FOSS world) were former WAREZ dealers for whom the idea of paid (l)OSS was sacrilegious.

ooh, a bug report I filed seven years ago got fixed today. I no longer use the software in question and eventually decided I'd prefer different alternatives but it's nice to see the issue get closed with a fix anyway
In honor of Uber shutting down in Nigeria this week, here’s my favorite story about Uber in Nigeria.

Hey #Eleventy experts, I have metadata in a metadata file that contains my email address. How can Eleventy do HTML Entity Encoding on that email upon building? I am having trouble finding it on the web. #BuildAwesome
Wife thinks I don't like to celebrate my birthday because I'm scared of ageing. It's not that at all, it's because if I celebrate it I'm reminded that I have no friends of my own, they're all her friends and I don't really share a connection with any of them.
Same here, except I don't even have a wife
@ajroach42 If I ever found a good piece of software I'd fall over in shock.

@ajroach42 I read Circe a very long time ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
@Da_Gut I'll probably start it tonight.
