I read "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller last night (and "The bow of Heracles" and "Galatea")
The Song of Achilles tells the story of The Iliad from the perspective of Patroclus, or rather tells the story of Patroclus and his relationship with Achilles, which necessarily involves also telling the story of The Iliad.
It is a gay love story, punctuated by the Trojan War.
It does not matter how well you know the story, Miller manages to make it feel fresh by lingering, slowly, on these two people.
