But mostly, I've been thinking, and trying to fight back in small ways to find or build a new foundation as the forces of capital erode the ground from underneath my feet, technologically speaking.
I have, for decades, considered Debian the bedrock of my computer infrastructure.
The thing that I could trust, because it was run by an organization so obsessed with the ideology of software freedom that it routinely rendered itself significantly more cumbersome as a result.
I was there for the IceWeasel campaign! I thought those principles were central to the project.
I was wrong.
"They attack everyone, everyone but us." War criminal Netanyahu told the Israeli army's General Staff today that toppling Iran's government is Israel's central mission, boasting that the war it started and dragged the US into has left the region ablaze while sparing Israel itself.
Yes, no (built-in) AI is now a feature

@inquiline this is a lot more egregious example than anything I've seen of normalizing this
yes i thought so too. oil company executives have been on the boards of these org's since they were founded in the 1970s and around 1990 legislation was passed in CA saying that oil co's have to fund conservation with a little tax on their industrial activities, but it leads to this total perversion where the org's can't be honest about ecological threat (and can only respond to injuries after the fact)
@randahl , it also helps that you make very good videos
@ElsvanOsch Thank you Els. That is very kind.
Found one more. Runners crossing the longest hanging bridge of the Alps (494m).
Very serious news headlines in Denmark today, after Danish Police has confirmed a technical glitch has lead to the deletion of data in the Danish Crime Registry.
Certain records of serious crimes committed by some criminals are unavailable. This means, the police is unable to confirm that a person being hired for a kindergarten job is not a convicted pedophile, or a person seeking a rifle permit is not a violent criminal.
Considerable resources are now committed to recreate the registry.
@randahl thanks Claude!
Shared infrastructure is how the #Fediverse can grow without recreating enshittified platform silos.
We’re excited to share that Bonfire is working with Mastodon on two critical areas of Fediverse infrastructure: remote media storage and automated content detection.
Built around open Fediverse Auxiliary Service Provider (FASP) specifications, this work will help platforms connect to shared services instead of each having to build and operate the same capabilities alone.
Our aim is to make these capabilities open, interoperable, and available for any federated server to adopt.
A big thank you to @Mastodon@mastodon.social team for involving us in this work. We’re looking forward to building together and sharing what we learn along the way.

I've not seen a political scandal as serious as this before in my life, and I remember Harrold Wilson's election in 1964.
Secret filming includes #RobertJenric being introduced to a donor for "off the books" polling (by a senior Reform official) and later, filming where #NigelFarage acknowledges that knew this was happening.

We Mastodon users have done it again!
After 10,000 views of my latest video, the stats show that the external viewers arrive from
Mastodon 50 %
Facebook 6 %
Bluesky 2 %
Threads 0.4 %
When there is an algorithm, corporations decide whether posts with links to competing platforms like YouTube are visible to other users.
When there is no algorithm, we the users decide what is boosted.
Choose Mastodon! ♥️🐘
Given Debian's recent vote to allow slop in their OS, I think we should have a second vote on whether or not to redirect the 500 GBP that we were going to donate to them somewhere else. I don't think they would have been a recipient of our largesse if the votes were held today. #SocialCoopGovernance
@GuerillaOntologist agreed!
HELP NEEDED! PLEASE RT
My Husband has just been made redundant.
He was the Art director on Disney Dreamlight Valley who actually turned the project around from yet another mobile game, to the multiplatform, biggest success Gameloft has ever had with a game.
He was also supporting mine and our daughter's disabled asses. We now have no private insurance and have come up against brick walls in the Quebec public health system.
We basically need him employed ASAP in the Montreal. Please RT!
@gsuberland i want scoot dot display where it‘s a fixed set of dots that just scoot around
@gsuberland man now I'm thinking about how one would build this. movable electromagnet is the obvious design but that can only move one dot at a time. how could you move a bunch of dots simultaneously
