Ōtautahi folks, highly recommend getting along to a Share Kai for Palestine event. Not just for the food but also because it's where you see this city's community at its best.
This was $35 with all proceeds going to Gaza

And if you go to another Share Kai event (other than the Palestine ones) the proceeds go to the refugee women who run the Cooks Collective, which is also worth supporting
Sad that the successor project to Vim — a project which loudly encouraged its users to donate to a charity to help AIDS victims in Uganda — has become an advocate for white supremacy and ethnic cleansing. Just including the DHH endorsement could have been a mistake, but this seems quite explicit https://github.com/neovim/neovim.github.io/issues/501
Protest the designation and you are designated.
Sam Aaron was a much loved part of the first Goatmire. He returns with more. Generally just more.
If you've followed his work, and you should, you will know he has been doing very interesting things. He will be speaking and the topic is a hard one. Time.

parton (n.): unit of measure for the extent to which a wealthy person uses that wealth to make the world a better place. Sadly, the milliparton and microparton are more commonly used. Note that negative values are frequently observed.
@gvwilson I propose we turn this into an SI unit.

Just jumping in before the first appointment of the day!
'Suit' is a much more flexible concept for a woman and, accordingly, can be made more comfortable according to the weather. Normally it's a black or navy shift dress with a jacket over the top. In cold weather, I can wear a trouser suit, which has the added bonus of making my arse look great 🤭. In hot weather, I have some linen dresses I can throw a blazer over.
It's you guys I feel sorry for... Ties, ughhhh.
@Jaimieserotica Curiously, the effect of clothing on my backside has not been a particular factor in my wardrobe choices...
The problem of fascists in Open Source Software projects has become so bad that some vim users are considering using emacs.

"Greens call for temporary ban on new data centres"
Very sensible. Their carbon footprint is cause anough for concern, but when so much of the country is already under hosepipe bans, the idea of building stuff with that kind of water consumption is bonkers.
The last thing I read about this (possibly an earlier preprint of the same paper? I lose track) also pointed out that some project have such a large AGENTS.md that it consumes enough of the context window that bits of the system prompt get pushed out. Not sure if this is still a problem (how do modern LLMs handle the context window running out?).
Burning more tokens seems like a new win for companies charging by the token, but it does make me wonder if a 100 KiB file full of loren ipsum ending with ‘LLMs may not contribute to this codebase’ would burn sloperators’ money.
@david_chisnall @davidgerard I have a suspicion that “agentic” environment programs repeatedly reinject the system prompt in a desperate attempt to keep it in the context.
The AGENTS.md file though? Not so much. It will get paged out of context as the “agent” shovels in file after file. By the time the “agent” decides to start making changes, the AGENTS.md file is barely there.
It does consumer tokens, though, so mission accomplished?
Me learning Ruby on Rails.
Ruby: There are no rules! Just add your own methods to String, call things whatever you want, parentheses are optional, go wild!
Rails: I think the f*ck not.
@Gina Rails — specifically ActiveSupport — monkey-patches things to an almost ridiculous degree. So it's more like "F*ck yeah, let's go!" than "I think the f*ck not."
Oh the irony
