@MaxCorp
But when you look at a wider period of time like this both the vinyl and cd revival are a lot more statistically insignificant than people would like you to believe
Not sure who found the Painted Suillus first, but it wasn’t me.
Today in "horrors beyond mortal comprehension" I learned that there is an abandoned Mr Blobby theme park in Somerset, and would like to propose it as the location of the 2027 UK Fedi meetup.
I got cited in a published academic paper 🥰
@onepict And that article is devastating.on so many levels. Thanks for sharing.
@lastrobot I've been there myself. So I do commiserate.
@afewbugs Not having been in the UK in the 1990s, I only found out about Mr Blobby from Fedi accounts after I signed up here. I naturally thought it was an elaborate Fedi hoax. Which I haven’t entirely ruled out.
@Volwren hachyderm.io is good, and they have at least one Black mod on the team!
@Curator Hm, is this new? I’ve had them blocked since Kris Nova was still around due to racism and general privilege nonsense.

Compelling, adult SF on the small screen is, I’m fully aware, not an easy thing to pull off. But “Foundation” ain’t it.
I miss “Westworld.” : . (
@adamgreenfield I find Silo quite worth a watch, though in S3 they start to have (imho) some pacing problems and some new characters they are introducing are a bit shallow. But the core characters and the idea is very interesting, and the show is quite smooth to watch
@onepict Here's the issue: charities have boards. These boards are populated by upper management class who bring in their big donor friends. They have incredible sway over charity exec teams. My voice is rarely enough to sway the execs. I've tried.
So I do have sympathy for charities that founder on oligarch tech. Many of these orgs are helping vulnerable people navigate hostile systems. Staff care deeply. And are too often forced to implement big tech solutions against in-org tech advice. 🫤
what makes Weil (a jew fleeing europe in the 30s) 'hitlers little helper'? 🧐
@einsiedlerspiel deleted thank you
@ChrisMayLA6 In theory, better preventative care sounds great.
But it usually involves public policy on a spectrum from preachy through nagging to coercive. Eat like this, exercise like that, do more X, don't do Y. Demand individual responses to systemic problems.
What's actually needed is radically non-medical, systemic approaches to public health. Facilitate healthy life, instead of preaching it. Safe secure housing for all. Infrastructure for active travel. Create allotments.

@onepict the level of inconvenience is finally outstripping the convenience. Will we start seeing a transition away? From them?
@littlemouse I doubt it.
In my experience only organisations that deliberately chose Free Software from the beginning for ideological reasons will be long term.
Even then, if someone comes into the organisation and doesn't feel comfortable using Free Software you have an opposition that will undermine your position if you don't have a relationship of trust.
Most organisations also quite rightly just want something to work. Even if it works badly. No one gets fired for using Microsoft.

@sjslocombe Hello Sara. No we do not, but hopefully you'll like our new features.
@Tutanota Is adding Snooze on your roadmap?
how did I not spot that relentless data centre shill Andy Masley is funded by the Effective Altruists and calls himself one
specifically Coefficient Giving, previously known as Open Philanthropy, bankrolled by Dustin Moskovitz
cite: his front page lol
truly, fucking data centres everywhere sucking up all the local water is the most effective possible altruism
