The forest’s color palette 🎨
Looking straight down at a the circular cap of a bolete mushroom. There are a few bite marks exposing a whitish flesh. The cap is about 2 ½ inches across and is reddish ochre. It looks sort of velvety. Definitely the kind of mushroom you’d show off if you were a woodland faerie.
Looking straight down onto the circular cap of a very bright yellow Amanita mushroom. There are pineneedles and leaves under it, on the forest floor.
Looking straight down on the circular cap of a bolete mushroom. Its cap is roughly 4 inches across and has a few chomp marks. It is pale red with the inner skin being white/yellow. It is a smooth top that gently angles downward as you get to the edge.
Looking straight down on the cap of an Eastern Caesar’s Amanita mushroom. It has a round cap that is yellow on the edge, bright orange toward the middle and even brighter red/orange in the center. It is about 2 ½ inches across.

One of my favourite weird mushrooms for #FungiFriday ! Plectania melastoma, or the black hole fungus. Grows on wood, though often it appears to be on the ground from buried wood.
